dc.description | Evaluar el desempeño oral en Inglés a los estudiantes de clases grandes es una tarea desafiante para los docentes. Este trabajo de investigación Acción propone el uso de videos como una herramienta para hacer dicho proceso más efectivo y objetivo en un grupo numeroso de séptimo grado del colegio Liceo Tame ubicado en Tame, Arauca, Colombia. Los datos de campo fueron recolectados a partir de actividades realizadas por estudiantes, cuyo foco era el uso oral del idioma Inglés las cuales fueron grabadas con la video cámara de un celular inteligente. Estos datos fueron analizados por los estudiantes mediante rubricas de auto evaluación las cuales les permitían participar de manera directa y muy activa en su proceso de aprendizaje y monitorearlo de una manera consciente. ESte estudio se desarrolló en dos ciclos durante los cuales se buscó determinar la manera como el uso de los videos influenciaba el desempeño oral de los estudiantes y las oportunidades que brindaba al docente para optimizr el tiempo de tal manera que todos los estudiantes fueran evaluados en su desempeño oral en una sola sesión de clase.
Los datos cuantitativos y cualitativos obtenidos de los videos, rubricas, diarios de campo y las dos entrevistas de grupo fueron tratados por medio tecnicas de codificación color y métodos estadísticos. Los resultados muestran que los videos pueden ser una interesante e innovativa manera de enseñar y evaluar el Inglés en este contexto ya que éstos permiten a los estudiantes interactuar a través de sus celulares y el servicio de mensajería instantanea de Whatssapp mientras exploran y evaluan su propio desempeño a través de cada sesión, al tiempo que permite a los padres de familia participar de manera directa en el proceso por el mismo medio. De otro lado, este estudio describe estrategias para uso efectivo del tiempo de cada clase o sesión y de los videos grabados en clase así como los desafíos que el docente investigador enfrentó durante durante el proceso. | spa |
dc.description.abstract | Assessing speaking performance to learners of a large English class is a challenging task for teachers. This action research proposes the use of video recordings for making this process more effective and objective in a large EFL seventh grade class of the public school Liceo Tame located in Tame, Arauca, Colombia. Raw data were collected from learners’ speaking activities that were recorded with a cellphone video camera and managed by means of self-assessment rubrics what allowed students to become involved in their learning process and monitor it in a conscious way. The development of the study comprised two cycles that were focused in exploring the way as the use of these tools influenced the learners’ speaking performance and the opportunities for teacher optimizing the time available in order assess the whole class in one session.
Qualitative and quantitative data obtained from videos, rubrics, teacher journals and focus group interviews were managed by means of color coding techniques and statistical methods. The results show that video recordings offer an interesting and innovative way of teaching English in this context since it allow learners to interact through their cellphones and instant messaging service WhatsApp while they explore and assess their own perform from one session to another at the time that parents participate positively in the process via Whatssap. On the other hand, this study describes strategies for effective use of class time and video recordings for assessing speaking activities as well as the challenges that the teacher researcher faced during the process. | spa |
