dc.descriptionLas distracciones al conducir vehículos pueden estar desempeñando un papel relevante en las causas de los accidentes de tráfico. A pesar de que hasta ahora, los conocimientos empíricos sobre cómo funciona en los países de ingresos bajos y medios (PIBM) es limitado, y para el caso de los conductores no profesionales colombianos permanecen prácticamente inexplorados en este sentido. El objetivo de esta investigación es evaluar el efecto de las distracciones al conducir, así como los problemas relacionados con la conducción y el comportamiento de los conductores de Bogotá, Colombia. Para este propósito, se recopiló una muestra, apoyados en la Metodología Aleatoria Simple (MAS), con un total de 659 conductores (64% hombres y 36% mujeres) en una edad media de 38 años, donde respondieron a una encuesta electrónica sobre distracciones al conducir, comportamientos y antecedentes de accidentes autoinformados. Se ha descubierto que la mayoría de las fuentes de distracción presentadas son bastante comunes entre la mayoría de los conductores, siendo muy pocos los aspectos diferenciales debido al género. Los modelos de ecuaciones estructurales muestran cómo existe un efecto significativo de las distracciones en la vía respecto a las tasas de accidentes autoinformadas por los conductores, arroja el modelo que los adultos jóvenes son más propensos a incurrir en estos comportamientos distractores. Estos hallazgos mejoran la formulación de medidas tendientes a mitigar el riesgo de distracción al conducir; del mismo modo, concluye en propuestas relacionadas con el cumplimiento de las normas relacionadas con el uso de dispositivos electrónicos mientras se conduce, contribuyendo así a reducir la prevalencia e impacto de fuentes de distracción al conducir. dc.description.abstractDistractions from driving vehicles may be playing a role in the causes of road accidents. Although so far, empirical knowledge on how it works in low- and middle-income countries (PIBM) is limited, and for Colombian non-professional drivers it remains virtually unexplored in this regard. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of distractions when driving, as well as the problems related to driving and the behavior of drivers in Bogotá, Colombia. For this purpose, a sample was collected, supported by the Simple Random Methodology (SRM), with a total of 659 drivers (64% men and 36% women) at an average age of 38 years, where they responded to an electronic survey on driving distractions, behaviour and history of self-informed accidents. It has been discovered that most of the sources of distraction presented are fairly common among most drivers, with very few aspects being differential due to gender. The models of structural equations show how there is a significant effect of distractions on the road with respect to auto-reported accident rates by drivers, model that young adults are more likely to engage in these distracting behaviors. These findings improve the formulation of measures to mitigate the risk of distraction while driving; likewise, concludes in proposals related to compliance with regulations related to the use of electronic devices while driving, thus contributing to reducing the prevalence and impact of distraction sources when driving.
