After clarifying who our object of study is, namely social movements and grassroots activism, we will present the sociocultural approach to emotions that characterizes this line of study. In the main part of the paper, some of James M. Jasper’s key concepts will be presented, from the most recent work of 2018, demonstrating the robustness of these concepts, as well as their usefulness when applying them. Finally, in the conclusions, some recommendations aimed at stimulating the dissemination of this line of research will be shared.Este artículo muestra cómo insertar las emociones como variables de análisis en el estudio de los movimientos sociales. Después de aclarar quiénes son nuestro objeto de estudio, a saber, los movimientos sociales y el activismo de base, presentaremos el enfoque sociocultural de las emociones que caracteriza esta línea de estudio. En la parte central del texto se presentarán algunos de los conceptos clave de James M. Jasper, a partir del trabajo más reciente de 2018, evidenciando la solidez de estos conceptos, así como su utilidad a la hora de aplicarlos.
