Hechos y tiempos que se superponen en la ciudad, representados en la arquitectura. Su correcta construcción requiere valores sólidos y ancestrales, y que sean compartidos. El respeto por nuestro patrimonio no es un obstáculo para el DESARROLLO, al contrario, es su impulso. La vida presente y futura en este legado debe ser posible, pero si no hay rentabilidad no se sostiene sino de manera artificial. El patrimonio es la base mental y social de la creatividad, pero se requiere mucha lucidez para incrustarlo en el futuro, con respeto. El ser humano levanta la ARQUITECTURA para proteger su vida. El sitio de Tunja es central y estratégico, por eso en tiempos precolombinos acogió el gran cacicazgo de los muiscas. Allí llegan todos los caminos: desde las altiplanicies del sur, Chocontá y Bogotá, o hacia Jenesano y Ramiriquí, o del norte, hacia Sogamoso, y del occidente, a Sáchica y Villa de Leyva. En el lugar mismo del cacique principal se fundó la ciudad actual, regida por la traza del damero colonial, a partir de ese maravilloso espacio que es la plaza, con sus calles rectas y las plazuelas menores de los conventos, los solares, los cerros y los vientos. Su arquitectura es magnífica: aleros y balcones, portales y patios, bellos testigos del tiempo, la presencia de los abuelos, la defensa contra la amnesia. Solo del AMOR surge la preservación del patrimonio, su respeto no debe ser una imposición represiva sino el convencimiento de su importancia. Y este libro seduce para difundirlo, con dibujos sencillos pero didácticos, artísticos pero con un fin preciso y necesario. Lo que nos dice el niño Cristo José, y la sabiduría de Don José, plasmado en gráficos que suscitan esos afectos. Porque una imagen vale más que mil palabras. Para que Don Chepe y los demás dueños y actores del patrimonio, todos, lo comprendan y aprecien. Como en los tiempos de las catedrales góticas, cuando no toda la población sabía leer, se enseñaba la Historia Sagrada y la doctrina mediante las esculturas y representaciones en muros y vitrales, así ahora quienes no saben leer la arquitectura la entienden con claridad.
