Los aspectos teóricos referentes a la técnica de la teledetección y las aplicaciones del sensor MODIS se presentan en el documento, así como también un estudio llevado a cabo en el departamento del Tolima para determinar cual evento de desastre se presenta con mayor frecuencia, y se aborda dicho evento a través de metodologías establecidas a nivel nacional para caracterizar su grado de amenaza a partir de insumos derivados de la teledetección y del sensor MODIS.Satellite images have many applications in daily life, techniques such as remote sensing and photogrammetry allow these images to be acquired and their applications are oriented not only to the development of cartography but also to atmospheric, oceanic, cryosphere and terrestrial studies, as well, to the field of earth sciences, such as geology, hydrology, topography, meteorology, among others.
