(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-11) Barrera Morales, Gabriel; Amaya Guio, Ximena; Universidad Santo Tomás
The municipality of San Gil, Santander, recognized for its vocation toward nature and adventure tourism, reveals the need to strengthen its architectural infrastructure to consolidate tourist experience and territorial identity within an integral facility. To design a tourist center named TERRA GUANE aimed at contributing to the development and revitalization of tourism in San Gil through an architectural proposal that integrates sustainability, cultural identity, and landscape articulation. A project-based approach with a descriptive-analytical scope was adopted, based on the study of the urban, climatic, regulatory, and sociocultural context of the intervention site, supported by a theoretical review of sustainable tourism and territorial identity, which allowed the formulation of design guidelines, architectural programming, and bioclimatic strategies. The process resulted in an architectural proposal that incorporates flexible spatial organization, landscape integration, context-responsive materiality, and passive environmental comfort strategies, shaping a tourist center oriented toward enhancing visitor experience and social interaction. TERRA GUANE is conceived as an architectural contribution that, through its formal and functional configuration, seeks to stimulate tourism dynamics and strengthen the cultural recognition of San Gil at the departmental level, highlighting architecture as a tool for territorial projection and sustainable development.

Residencia Universitaria en el Área Metropolitana De Bucaramanga, Santander
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-11) Alvarado Jaimes, Andrés Felipe; Cadena Jaimes, Maria Alejandra; Universidad Santo Tomás
This project presents a student housing proposal in Bucaramanga, conceived as an architectural typology that goes beyond traditional student accommodation to become an active element within the urban fabric. The project responds to the growing demand for student housing, particularly due to its proximity to the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), prioritizing a strategic location that ensures accessibility, connectivity, and proximity to essential services. The proposal establishes a strong relationship with the urban context by activating the ground floor through commercial spaces, pocket parks, and a pedestrian-priority axis that enhances the dynamics of the sector. Architecturally, the building is organized through an “H”-shaped configuration structured around a central core, allowing efficient spatial distribution while improving natural lighting and ventilation. The design incorporates a variety of housing typologies to accommodate different user needs, along with shared spaces distributed throughout the building to promote social interaction while maintaining privacy. Additionally, bioclimatic strategies such as cross ventilation, stack effect, green terraces, and green roofs are implemented to enhance environmental performance and user comfort. Overall, the project aims to establish a comprehensive model of student housing that integrates urban, architectural, and environmental aspects, contributing not only to housing solutions but also to the improvement of the surrounding urban environment and student living experience.

Bucaramanga, historically known as "the City of Parks", currently faces a critical deficit in cultural and sports infrastructure, resulting from accelerated urban growth and insufficient investment in quality public spaces. This shortage negatively impacts social cohesion, non-formal education, public health and community inclusion. In response to this problem, the present project proposes the design of CIMA, Centro Integrador del Movimiento y el Arte (Integrative Center for Movement and the Arts), a urban facility that brings together culture, sport and recreation as instruments of social transformation and collective well-being. Drawing on hybrid facility models successfully developed in other Colombian cities such as the UVA in Medellín and the CEFE in Bogotá, the project does not seek to replicate them but to critically adapt them to the context of Bucaramanga, generating a response with its own identity, territorial roots and a specific social vocation. Inspired by the geography of the Chicamocha Canyon, the building is conceived as a vertical park whose ascending journey architecturally translates the idea of personal growth and the reach of the summit. Furthermore, its strategic location within the city positions CIMA as an urban landmark and catalyst for social transformation. Through this proposal, the project contributes to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to health, quality education, reduction of inequalities and urban sustainability

Propuesta arquitectónica de un hotel en el Embalse de Topocoro
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-06) Pardo Figueroa, Jesus Maria; Rincón Triana, Dalia Fernanda; Ullauri Crespo, Juan Alberto; Universidad Santo Tomas
The architectural proposal for a hotel located at the Topocoro Reservoir in Santander has been conceived as a comprehensive response to the expansion of tourism in the reservoir area, while simultaneously promoting environmentally responsible growth. The project originates from the recognition of the reservoir’s landscape, environmental, and strategic potential, as well as the lack of lodging facilities that integrate sustainability, current regulations, and spatial experience. The proposal responds through elements developed within the framework of biophilic architecture theory, implementing bioclimatic strategies, the conscious selection of materials, and technical construction criteria aimed at minimizing environmental impact. In order to establish an architectural program aligned with the tourism dynamics of the territory, the project is also grounded in sectoral regulatory analysis, the review of national and international references, and the identification of the target user. Based on the physical-spatial analysis of the context—considering topographic, climatic, landscape, and accessibility variables—a site strategy is defined that prioritizes the visual and sensory relationship with the landscape, understanding architecture as a mediator between the individual and nature. In this sense, the project not only focuses on resolving a hotel typology, but also proposes a lodging space designed for experiential living, wonder, and reconnection with the natural environment.

Propuesta arquitectónica de un Centro de Desarrollo Infantil para el Barrio Campo Hermoso de la Comuna 5 de Bucaramanga
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-04) Mantilla Molina, Jhopman Steevenson; Narvaez Manrique, Jorge Alberto; Universidad Santo Tomas
For the development of the Child Development Center (CDI) in the Campo Hermoso neighborhood of Bucaramanga, an investigative and design process was carried out, addressing different conceptual, pedagogical, urban, and technical dimensions. Initially, a precise definition of what constitutes a CDI was established, based on the guidelines of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF). In parallel, an identification process was conducted using the implementation guide for early childhood care infrastructures, aimed at characterizing the site and developing the architectural project. This study made it possible to identify the essential concepts for the optimal development of spatial, functional, and urban–environmental activities that enhance learning, social interaction, and integral development during the early stages of life. A detailed urban and socio-spatial characterization of the Campo Hermoso neighborhood revealed that the existing CDI does not meet ICBF’s normative or technical requirements, justifying the need for a demolition and reconstruction project. This ensures the continuity of the social function of the site. Additionally, a user characterization (children, teachers, and adults) was carried out to define their direct and indirect participation in the CDI. Following a typological analysis of existing CDIs (urban, functional, and technical), the proposal defined an architecture that is modular, flexible, and adaptable. This strategy employs modulation and mobile partitions to create versatile spaces with transparent classrooms, walls no higher than 1.20 meters, and integration with green areas—ensuring an optimal environment for comprehensive learning.

Residencia para el Envejecimiento Activo en Floridablanca, Santander
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-01) Bello Rojas, Lineirys Lineth; Cristancho Almanza, Maria Paula; Duarte Cuevas, Valeria Tatiana; Ullauri Crespo, Juan Alberto; Universidad Santo Tomás
Problem: The municipality of Floridablanca, Santander, is facing an accelerated process of population aging, accompanied by transformations in household structures and residential models in middle–upper socioeconomic strata, where individualized housing configurations that promote social isolation of the autonomous elderly predominate. The existing housing supply is polarized between private housing and institutional care models, revealing a typological gap that articulates autonomy and community. Objective: To design a residence for active aging in Floridablanca, Santander, conceived as a mixed-use model integrating housing, facilities, and commerce, responding to contextual dynamics and population aging through a spatial proposal that promotes autonomy, well-being, and social interaction, both in its relationship withthe city and in the construction of community within the project. Method: The research was developed through a methodology structured in four phases: the review of architectural references, the definition of design criteria for active aging, and the technical and constructive consolidation of the proposal. Results: The project, evaluated using the COSI method (Montaner, Muxí & Falagán, 2019), demonstrates improvements in habitability and efficiency, highlighting a 17.9% increase in public space, 16.3% per inhabitant, and 74.4% in active frontages. It integrates accessible typologies, de-hierarchized spaces, constructive optimization, and efficient building systems, along with passive strategies and renewable energy, consolidating a proposal that translates theoretical criteria into measurable outcomes in inclusion, and spatial quality.

The main objective is to create a cultural restaurant centered on the essence of Japanese culture, adapted to the context of Bucaramanga, without limiting it solely to the gastronomic function of a conventional restaurant, but rather conceiving it as a space for encounter, experience, and cultural exchange. The proposal seeks to humanize the building, that is, to give it a sensitive and experiential character that allows for a deep connection between users and the cultural elements represented. The design is based on architectural principles inherent to Japanese tradition, such as harmony with nature, the conscious use of negative space, spatial modulation, organic materiality, and the transition between public and private spaces. Unlike other proposals that are forced to adapt to existing structures or adjacent properties within the urban fabric, this project was conceived from its inception as a comprehensive cultural space. Therefore, the building was designed from the outset to respond to the spatial and symbolic requirements of Japanese culture, without being restricted by limitations of the immediate surroundings. This allows for the creation of spaces such as gardens and contemplative areas that transcend mere functionality to become living expressions of cultural identity.

The aging population has generated a growing demand for specialized infrastructure for the care of the elderly (World Health Organization, 2015; National Administrative Department of Statistics, 2022), highlighting the insufficiency of facilities designed according to appropriate architectural criteria in the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Area, as most institutions operate in adapted buildings that do not meet accessibility, comfort, or differentiation criteria according to levels of functional dependence (Pan American Health Organization, 2017). In response to this problem, this project develops the architectural design of a comprehensive care center for the elderly in the La Mata sector of the municipality of Piedecuesta, aimed at meeting physical, cognitive, emotional, and social needs through a humanized approach to space. The methodological process combines regulatory review, demographic and functional characterization of users based on statistical information and geriatric assessment tools, comparative analysis of architectural references, and an urban-environmental study of the site, allowing for the establishment of design criteria based on universal accessibility, biophilia, spatial orientation, and functional therapeutic organization. As a result, different spaces are defined according to levels of dependency, integration of care, social, and therapeutic areas, safe routes, and direct contact with the natural environment to promote autonomy, social interaction, and emotional well-being. It is concluded that specialized architectural design is a determining factor in the quality of life of older adults (WHO, 2015; Marcus & Sachs, 2013), and the facility is proposed as a model of geriatric infrastructure with metropolitan coverage.

The document presented the development of a degree project in which the architectural design of a medium-scale intercultural educational institution was proposed in the municipality of Manaure, La Guajira, a territory historically characterized by the coexistence of the Wayuu indigenous community and the Arijuna population; in this regard, the main issue identified was the lack of educational infrastructure capable of responding comprehensively to both the extreme climatic conditions of the desert environment and the cultural dynamics inherent to an intercultural context, furthermore, it was observed that existing buildings replicated standardized models unrelated to the territory, showing limitations in ventilation, thermal comfort, and spatial flexibility, which negatively affected environmental quality, school retention, and community appropriation; consequently, the project proposed the design of an institution with an approximate capacity for 290 students, conceived not only as an academic facility but also as a space for meeting, dialogue, and collective construction, thus, the architectural approach articulated cultural identity, climatic adaptation, and functional efficiency through a modular and flexible spatial organization capable of accommodating diverse pedagogical and community practices, likewise, the proposal was based on a configuration that enhanced natural ventilation and solar control along with a fragmented layout that integrated built and open spaces, incorporating courtyards, corridors, and voids as structuring elements of the complex, which allowed the inclusion of passive lighting and ventilation strategies, the use of permeable surfaces, and materiality criteria consistent with the territorial context, ultimately shaping a permeable architecture aimed at strengthening the relationship between community, territory, and education.

Albergue de Rescate y Adopción Felino
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-01) Olarte Acosta, Sebastian Darley; Ullauri Crespo, Juan Alberto; Universidad Santo Tomás
The project addresses the issue of abandonment and overpopulation of stray cats in the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga, highlighting the lack of specialized infrastructure for their care, recovery, and adoption. This situation exposes animals to vulnerable conditions such as disease, malnutrition, and abuse, while also generating negative impacts on public health and the urban environment, worsened by the limited culture of responsible pet ownership. In response, the project proposes the design of a feline rescue and adoption shelter that provides a safe and functional environment for the rehabilitation of vulnerable cats. The proposal is also conceived as an urban node that enhances connectivity, public space appropriation, and social cohesion within the sector. The methodology is based on the analysis of feline behavior, the study of architectural precedents, and the review of regulations. Conceptually, the proposal is grounded in morphogenesis inspired by the “cat tree,” posthumanist architecture, and biophilic design. As a result, the project develops an architectural proposal that integrates functional and open spaces, promoting natural ventilation, daylighting, and the relationship between interior and exterior, consolidating itself as an urban facility that supports animal welfare and urban revitalization.

Centro de desarrollo infantil barrio La Cumbre, Floridablanca
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-01) Ospino Contreras, Isaac Lecid; Corredor Carrillo, Edisson Steven; Cadena Jaimes, Maria Alejandra; Universidad Santo Tomas
This undergraduate thesis develops the architectural design of a Child Development Center (CDI) in the La Cumbre neighborhood, Floridablanca, with a capacity for 95 children aged 0 to 6 years. The study is based on an urban, demographic, and environmental analysis of the sector, which identifies an approximate child population of 10,599 children, indicating a significant potential demand for early childhood care services. As a territorial precedent, an infrastructure previously built on the project site as a CDI never entered operation. This situation guides the project toward rethinking the facility from an architectural perspective, emphasizing appropriate site implementation, human scale, and spatial coherence with the surrounding urban context. The proposal follows a strictly architectural approach, grounded in the technical guidelines established by the GIPI (Guide for the Implementation of Infrastructure Projects for Early Childhood Care) and current Colombian technical standards. The project incorporates biophilic architectural principles and including natural lighting, cross ventilation, integration of vegetation, and interior exterior spatial relationships, aiming to create healthy and adequate environments for early childhood development. The proposed capacity responds to neighborhood-scale criteria and distributed coverage logic, conceiving the CDI as an urban facility integrated into the residential fabric. The final proposal consolidates a flexible, functional, and context-sensitive infrastructure intended to enhance the immediate urban environment and strengthen the local early childhood care network.

(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-01) Sanabria Becerra, Camila Andrea; Cadena Jaimes, Maria Alejandra; Universidad Santo Tomas
In the city of Bucaramanga, urban growth and the consolidation of multifamily housing developments have promoted more efficient land use in strategic urban areas. However, many of these housing solutions present limitations related to habitability, environmental comfort, and the availability of complementary spaces that address the contemporary needs of residents. In response to this situation, the objective of this project was to design a multifamily residential building through the application of passive bioclimatic strategies aimed at optimizing thermal, visual, and energy comfort conditions, while incorporating public and community spaces that enhance social cohesion and improve users’ quality of life. The methodology was based on the demographic analysis of the target population, the urban, environmental, and regulatory assessment of the La Pedregosa sector, located in Comuna 9 of Bucaramanga, the review of national and international architectural precedents, and the evaluation of the city’s climatic conditions. This process enabled the establishment of design criteria consistent with the characteristics of the site and the needs of its users. As a result, an architectural proposal for a multifamily residential building was developed, integrating passive bioclimatic strategies such as natural ventilation, solar control, daylight utilization, and the incorporation of vegetation to improve the environmental performance of the building. In addition, the project includes community and complementary spaces that expand housing functions and strengthen social interaction among residents. It is concluded that the integration of bioclimatic design criteria and collective spaces in multifamily housing can improve habitability conditions, promote greater environmental efficiency, and provide more appropriate responses to contemporary residential needs, contributing to the development of more comfortable and sustainable living environments.

Centro de acogdia para víctimas de violencia intrafamiliar en Bucaramanga, Santander
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-01) Castellanos Mendivelso, Dayanne Melissa; Jaimes Rodriguez, Javier Leonardo; Universidad Santo Tomas
Domestic violence is a problem present across all social and economic contexts. Historically, it has been mainly associated with women from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Today, this issue is less stigmatized than before; however, current statistics reveal a gap in services for users from middle- and high-income groups, who often do not turn to public institutions due to concerns about privacy, social status, or the saturation of state facilities. In bucaramanga, existing support spaces operate with high demand and rely on inefficient infrastructure that does not provide comprehensive support or full recovery processes for effective reintegration into society. Instead, they focus primarily on immediate assistance, without addressing emotional recovery and wellbeing through architectural design. This project proposes the design of a private temporary housing facility aimed at victims of domestic violence from middle- and high-income contexts, including men, women, older adults, and entire families. The proposal seeks to provide a safe, private, and safe environment that enables protection and reintegration through psychological support, legal counseling, medical care, and social assistance in one place. The project is supported by international references of shelter and wellness centers, incorporating design criteria that break away from the traditional institutional image of this type of facility, both in spatial configuration and formal expression. In addition, principles of well-being and neuroarchitecture are integrated as design support, prioritizing natural lighting, contact with nature, warm materiality, and domestic-scale spaces that foster tranquility and proper recovery. Keywords: domestic violence, comprehensive, support, temporary, accommodation, safe environment, neuroarchitecture

(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-06-01) Neira Vargas, Adriana Marcela; Cadena Jaimes, María Alejandra; Universidad Santo Tomas
Given the lack of a suitable space, such as the current community center in the Divino Niño neighborhood of Piedecuesta, which does not allow for optimal use of the lot, an analysis of architectural precedents is proposed, studying aspects such as form and function. An urbanenvironmental analysis is also conducted to identify green spaces, building heights, surrounding neighborhoods, and other characteristics of the environment. Similarly, a user analysis, focused on the neighborhood's residents, is carried out to determine the number of people who will use the space. Based on these studies, a community center design is proposed that complies with the NTC 6250-3 standard, which establishes the basic spaces required for the community, such as a multipurpose room, music room, dance studio, children's room, as well as access areas and administrative spaces. Finally, the project aims to integrate green spaces, play areas, and common areas, while also employing appropriate materials that promote natural ventilation and avoid negative impacts on user comfort.

Unidad integral de vivienda y producción cafetera para medianos productores en Aratoca, Santander
(Universidad Santo Tomás, 2026-05-28) Ayala Gutierrez, Yeferson Nemecio; Nieves Lizarazo, Sergio David; Amaya Guio, Ximena; Universidad Santo Tomas
The present degree project proposes the architectural design of a productive housing for coffee farmers located in Finca Guayacanes, Clavellinas village, in the municipality of Aratoca, Santander. Coffee cultivation represents a fundamental economic and social pillar in this region, directly involving four out of ten of its inhabitants. However, the current living conditions present significant deficiencies, mainly because the houses were not designed to harmoniously integrate the residential space with the technical requirements of the productive activity. This spatial disarticulation forces farmers to allocate improvised domestic areas for drying and storing the grain, which decreases the efficiency of the process, compromises labor safety, and undermines the hygienic and sanitary conditions of the home. To address this historical friction between living and producing, the project aims to efficiently articulate the residential vocation and the coffee processing infrastructure, also considering the possible integration of complementary dynamics such as tourism and rural commerce. The design is based on criteria of territorial adaptation, incorporating the use of local materials to minimize energy consumption and reduce environmental impact. In conclusion, the proposal aims to consolidate a comprehensive architectural model that optimizes agricultural work without sacrificing family privacy, strengthening rural roots and providing a contemporary, functional, and dignified solution to the realities of the Santander coffee farmer in the 21st century.
