dc.descriptionObjetivo: Describir el efecto del láser diodo con una longitud de onda de 650nm en el manejo del dolor en dientes con diagnóstico de periodontitis apical sintomática, tratados en el posgrado de endodoncia de la Universidad Santo Tomás. Materiales y métodos: En este estudio se incluyeron dientes con periodontitis apical sintomática de pacientes que acudieron entre agosto de 2022 y mayo de 2023, a quienes se les realizó endodoncia y terapia láser de baja potencia en una sola cita. Se midió la intensidad del dolor en una escala combinada a las 8, 24, 48, 72 horas, 8, 15 y 30 días. Resultados: Se evaluaron 3 casos, ningún paciente manifestó ingesta de medicamento como coadyuvante en el manejo del dolor postoperatorio, los pacientes reportaron dolor preoperatorio entre insoportable-muy fuerte, a las 8 horas disminuyó a moderado-fuerte y a las 24 horas moderado-poco dolor, un paciente reportó no tener dolor a las 48 horas, y los otros dos pacientes hasta las 72 horas manifestaron ausencia de dolor. En la valoración clínica a los 8 días ningún paciente reportó dolor a la percusión y/o palpación. Conclusiones: La LLLT con una longitud de onda de 650 nm mostró disminución en el dolor postoperatorio y redujo el consumo de analgésicos.spa
dc.description.abstractPurpose: Describe the effect of the diode laser with a wavelength of 650nm in the management of pain in teeth with a diagnosis of symptomatic apical periodontitis, treated in the endodontics postgraduate program of the Universidad Santo Tomás. Materials and methods: This study included teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis from patients who attended between August 2022 and May 2023, who underwent endodontics and low power laser therapy in a single-visit. Pain intensity was measured on a combined scale at 8, 24, 48, 48, 72 hours, 8, 15 and 30 days. Results: 3 cases were evaluated, no patient reported taking medication as an adjuvant in the management of postoperative pain, the patients reported preoperative pain between unbearable-very severe, at 8 hours it decreased to moderate-strong and at 24 hours moderate-little pain, one patient reported no pain at 48 hours, and the other two patients up to 72 hours reported no pain. In the clinical assessment at 8 days no patient reported pain to percussion and/or palpation. Conclusions: LLLT with a wavelength of 650 nm showed decreased postoperative pain and reduced analgesic consumption.spa
