AN EXTRAORAL EXPOSURE OF A MANDIBULAR RECONSTRUCTION PLATE SYSTEM: A CASE REPORT

dc.descriptionLos sistemas de reconstrucción mandibular han sido adaptados a través de los años mediante principios médico-ortopédicos; sin embargo, existen limitaciones y requerimientos mínimos para tener en cuenta, con el fin de evitar complicaciones descritas en la literatura como infección, fracturas del material de osteosíntesis, exposición intra y extraoral del material de osteosíntesis y pérdida de estabilidad de la fijación rígida, entre otros. Es el propósito de este reporte de caso mostrar la exposición extraoral de una placa de osteosíntesis de reconstrucción mandibular de bloqueo, en un paciente sometido a hemimandibulectomía, glosectomía subtotal, gastrostomía temporal y terapia oncológica coadyuvante por un proceso patológico mandibular asociado, y su manejo posretiro de material de osteosíntesis no convencional, lo que hace diferente el tratamiento con respecto a otros descritos en la literatura.[Correa PE, Ruiz JM. dc.descriptionMandibular reconstruction systems have been adapted through the years by medical and orthopedic principles, but there are limitations and minimum requirements to be considered in order to avoid complications described in the literature as infection, fracture of the osteosynthesis material, intra and extraoral exposure of osteosynthesis material and loss of stability of the rigid fixation, among others. It is the purpose of this case report to show the extraoral exposure of a osteosynthesis plate for mandibular reconstruction lock in a patient undergoing hemimandibulectomy, subtotal glossectomy, temporary gastrostomy and adjuvant cancer therapy for a mandibular pathological process associated and the unconventional management for the plate removal, which makes a different treatment over other described in the literature.en-US
