Conocimiento de los odontólogos de la ciudad de Bucaramanga sobre el aclaramiento dental en el segundo periodo del 2025

dc.descriptionAntecedentes. En la odontología actual, la estética ha cobrado gran importancia debido a la demanda de mejorar la sonrisa. El aclaramiento dental es uno de los procedimientos más solicitados; sin embargo, su correcta aplicación depende del conocimiento de los odontólogos, por lo que es pertinente evaluarlo. Objetivo. Evaluar durante el segundo periodo de 2025 el nivel de conocimiento que poseen los odontólogos de la ciudad de Bucaramanga respecto al aclaramiento dental. Metodología. Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal en odontólogos de Bucaramanga registrados en el REPS. Se utilizó un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia, un tamaño muestral de 175 participantes calculado con OpenEpi de 506 odontólogos. Se recolectaron los datos mediante una encuesta compuesta por información sociodemográfica y diez preguntas sobre conocimiento del aclaramiento dental. La encuesta se aplicó de forma virtual y fue validada por tres especialistas en Rehabilitación Oral. La variable dependiente fue el nivel de conocimiento sobre aclaramiento dental y las independientes incluyeron edad, sexo, experiencia y actualización académica. El análisis se realizó mediante estadística descriptiva y pruebas de asociación con un nivel de significancia de p<0,05. Se realizó consentimiento informado y se garantizó la confidencialidad. Resultados. Se evidenciaron valores adecuados del índice de razón de validez de contenido para la mayoría de los ítems, superando el punto de corte establecido, esto indicó una adecuada validez de contenido. La mayoría de los odontólogos presentó un nivel alto de conocimiento, con una mediana de 9 respuestas correctas. Se evidenció predominio del sexo femenino, con una mediana de edad de 35 años y 10 años de experiencia profesional. Asimismo, una proporción importante reportó actualizar sus conocimientos mediante lectura de artículos y participación en actividades académicas. Conclusión. Los odontólogos presentaron un nivel alto de conocimiento sobre aclaramiento, esto sugiere una adecuada formación y actualización en este procedimiento.
dc.description.abstractBackground. In contemporary dentistry, aesthetics has gained great importance due to the increasing demand to improve the appearance of the smile. Tooth whitening is one of the most requested procedures; however, its proper application depends on dentists’ knowledge, making its evaluation relevant. Objective. To evaluate, during the second period of 2025, the level of knowledge that dentists in the city of Bucaramanga have regarding tooth whitening. Methodology. A descriptive cross-sectional observational study was conducted among dentists in Bucaramanga registered in the Special Registry of Health Service Providers (REPS). A non-probabilistic convenience sampling method was used, with a sample size of 175 participants calculated using OpenEpi from a population of 506 dentists. Data were collected through a survey composed of sociodemographic information and ten questions assessing knowledge about tooth whitening. The survey was administered virtually and validated by three specialists in Oral Rehabilitation. The dependent variable was the level of knowledge about tooth whitening, while the independent variables included age, sex, clinical experience, and academic updating. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and association tests with a significance level of p < 0.05. Informed consent was obtained and confidentiality of the information was guaranteed. Results. Adequate values of the content validity ratio were observed for most items, exceeding the established cutoff point, which indicated appropriate content validity. Most dentists showed a high level of knowledge, with a median of 9 correct answers. A predominance of female participants was observed, with a median age of 35 years and approximately 10 years of professional experience. Additionally, a significant proportion reported updating their knowledge through reading scientific articles and participating in academic activities. Conclusion. Dentists showed a high level of knowledge about tooth whitening, suggesting adequate training and professional updating in this procedure.
