Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. In Colombia, 81.3% of breast cancer deaths are preventable and 70% of new cases are detected in late stages of the disease. The objective of this study was to analyze the practice of breast cancer-related breast self-examination according to knowledge about risk factors and lifestyles in university women from the Physical Culture and Psychology programs of the Universidad Santo Tomás and the Physiotherapy program of the Universidad Manuela Beltrán in Bogotá, Colombia during 2014. The "DACH-German multicenter surveillance study" questionnaire was self-administered to identify knowledge, attitudes and practices for breast self-examination and the epidemiological surveillance instrument on behavioral risk factors "BRFSS-Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System" developed by the United States Center for Disease Control (CDC).
