dc.descriptionThe relationship between oral cavity and general health is evident; certain chronic pathologies have a greater impact on the bucodental condition and some oral diseases generate greater damage at systemic level. Thus, diabetes, osteoporosys, cancer, and cardiovascular and neuro-psyquiatric medication, among others, affect the oral condition. On the other hand, periodontitis, edentulism, oral pain and oral cancer affect the general health. These associations raise the necessity of a greater investigation and the responsibility that has all the health professionals to implement oriented actions to promote the health and to prevent the disease with an integral vision of the people.en-US
dc.descriptionLa relación que existe entre la cavidad oral y la salud general es evidente; ciertas patologías crónicas tienen mayor impacto sobre la condición bucodental y algunas enfermedades orales generan mayor daño a nivel sistémico. De esta manera, la diabetes, la osteoporosis, el cáncer y la medicación para el manejo de las alteraciones cardiovasculares y neuropsiquiátricas, entre otras, afectan la condición oral. Por su parte, la periodontitis, el edentulismo, el dolor oral y el cáncer oral afectan la salud general. Estas asociaciones plantean la necesidad de una mayor investigación y la responsabilidad que tienen todos los profesionales de la salud de implementar acciones orientadas a promover la salud y prevenir la enfermedad con una visión integral de la persona.[Concha SC.
