This article describes his theological method, characterized by reflecting on a Christian praxis comprised of contemplation and transformative action on reality, enlightened by the Word of God. To this end, the publication focuses on Gutiérrez's question about God, which, in essence, asks: “How can we speak of the God of life amid the suffering of the innocent?”. For it is God Himself who is the ultimate condition of possibility for his theology. This God is a mystery; however, He has revealed Himself as gratuitous love in creation and history. Faith in this God, according to Gutiérrez, should inspire a liberating praxis for the poor and the oppressed.
