dc.descriptionLa pérdida de uno o ambos de los globos oculares, representa un desafío significativo para la calidad de vida y el bienestar psicosocial de millones de personas en todo el mundo. En este contexto, la tecnología de las prótesis oculares ha emergido como un campo de investigación y desarrollo crucial, ofreciendo soluciones innovadoras para aquellos que han perdido su capacidad visual. Este working paper, resultado del trabajo del diplomado de prótesis oculares ofrecido en 2023 por la Facultad de Optometría de la Universidad Santo Tomás. Este diplomado responde a las necesidades del contexto social colombiano teniendo en cuenta inexistente oferta de formación en esta area. Por esta razón l diplomado propone brindar pautas para la valoración integral de la cavidad y la funcionalidad tanto de los párpados como de los anexos oculares, sensibilizar a los profesionales de la salud visual sobre la importancia del abordaje psicológico en la etapa inicial de manejo de un paciente con anoftalmia y de esta manera aumentar las de una adaptación exitosa.spa
dc.description.abstractThe loss of one or both of the eyeballs represents a significant challenge to the quality of life and psychosocial well-being of millions of people around the world. In this context, ocular prosthetic technology has emerged as a crucial field of research and development, offering innovative solutions for those who have lost their visual ability. This working paper, the result of the work of the ocular prosthetics diploma course offered in 2023 by the Faculty of Optometry of the Santo Tomás University. This diploma responds to the needs of the Colombian social context taking into account the non-existent training offer in this area. For this reason, the diploma proposes to provide guidelines for the comprehensive assessment of the cavity and the functionality of both the eyelids and the ocular adnexa, raising awareness among visual health professionals about the importance of the psychological approach in the initial stage of managing a patient with anophthalmia and in this way increase the chances of a successful adaptation.spa
