dc.descriptionThis article analyses the relationship between human rights and democracy in El Salvador and uses indicators to measure the human rights situation. It briefly discusses the country's historical context in order to better understand the process of violence that led to President Nayib Bukele's declaration of a state of emergency. It argues that, although the state of emergency may be compatible with the American Convention on Human Rights, the government's actions unjustifiably restrict the human rights recognised in the Convention and, because of their synergistic relationship with democracy, the latter has suffered a significant setback in the country under study.en-US
dc.descriptionEl presente artículo analiza la relación entre los derechos humanos y la democracia en El Salvador, y se utilizan indicadores que permiten medir su situación en estas materias. Se aborda brevemente su circunstancia histórica, con la finalidad de comprender mejor el proceso de violencia que condujo al estado de excepción impuesto por el Presidente Nayib Bukele. Se sostiene que, si bien un régimen de excepción puede ser compatible con la Convención Americana sobre Derechos Humanos, las acciones del gobierno restringen injustificadamente los derechos humanos en ella reconocidos y, debido a la relación sinérgica entre estos y la democracia, esta última ha tenido un retroceso significativo en el país objeto de estudio.es-ES
