| spa |
| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: It has been seen that patient suffering from periodontal disease can worsen their prognosis due to the presence of COVID 19, since these two pathologies are proinflammatory diseases. Objective: To demonstrate through a systematic review the role of periodontal disease in the prognosis of the clinical picture of patients diagnosed with COVID-19. Methods: articles were taken from the following databases: Science Direct, Pubmed, Taylor & Francis, Google Scholar and Scopus, for this the search equations used were (periodontitisOR“periodontaldisease”AND (covid-19) “SARS-COV-2"AND “periodontitis”. Only observational studies were included in this review. The articles extracted in the search were reviewed with their title and abstract, executing a first curation of the information, later they were read completely, giving rise to a second filtering. The information obtained was recorded in Microsoft Excel to consolidate the database, the evaluation of the quality of the studies was applied using the STROBE guide (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology). Results: 344 articles were initially identified, leaving a final breakdown of 4 articles that applied for the review, finding that 75% of the information was obtained from Pubmed. Participation in terms of sex was of a mixed population with 75%, the study that prevailed in this review were cases and controls, and in the quality measured with the STROBE guide it was determined by percentage, obtaining that the lowest was 73% and the greatest of 83%. Conclusion: from the systematic review it was established that there is no direct causal relationship between these two diseases. There are external variables that can aggravate the clinical picture by having the presence of periodontitis and COVID-19, due to the exacerbation that can be caused. | spa |
