Instant payment systems settle individual instructions in seconds and are available twenty-four hours a day. Their architecture combines a central operator, which routes and validates instructions, with a set of participating entities that send and receive transactions. The irrevocable and continuous nature of these transfers shifts control to a later point after execution: the daily reconciliation, which verifies that what each participant reported, what the central processor recorded, and what was actually settled all describe the same set of facts. For the same business day, three sets of inputs with different origins, formats, and responsible parties come together, and decisions with direct monetary effects depend on how they intersect: calculating multilateral net positions, generating settlement messages, and sending responses back to each participant. Processing happens on machines without Internet access, which rules out remote analytics services and any dependencies that need to be downloaded at runtime.
