| dc.description | Los lentes de contacto esclerales son una gran alternativa para la corrección visual en córneas irregulares y manejo de patologías oculares. A pesar de los beneficios que trae, generan cambios en la fisiología ocular, como edema, bullas epiteliales y endoteliales, queratitis infecciosa y no infecciosa, entre otras. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los resultados a través de una revisión sistemática sobre los factores asociados y las complicaciones que pueden presentarse por el uso de lentes esclerales y la relación con otras condiciones, que desestabilice la naturaleza anatomofisiológica de la córnea y provoque un desequilibrio en su funcionamiento. Se realizó una revisión de publicaciones en el período entre 2010 y 2024 en las bases de datos PubMed-Medline, Embase, Science direct y Scopus y evaluados con la escala PRISMA. Aplicando los filtros, se encontraron un total de 603 artículos y se preseleccionan 16 de acuerdo con los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. La complicación corneal más documentada fue el edema, mencionada en 10 de las investigaciones, equivalente al 62.5% del total de los estudios incluidos. Se estima que las complicaciones se presentan por falta de oxigenación e interacción de la córnea con el lente y métodos de limpieza inadecuados. | spa |
| dc.description.abstract | Scleral contact lenses are an excellent alternative for visual correction in irregular corneas and the management of ocular pathologies. Despite their benefits, they can induce changes in ocular physiology, such as edema, epithelial and endothelial bullae, infectious and non-infectious keratitis, among others. The objective of this study was to analyze the results through a systematic review of the factors associated with and complications arising from the use of scleral lenses, and their relationship with other conditions that may destabilize the anatomical and physiological integrity of the cornea, leading to an imbalance in its functioning. A review of publications from 2010 to 2024 was conducted using the databases PubMed-Medline, Embase, ScienceDirect, and Scopus, and evaluated using the PRISMA scale. After applying the filters, a total of 603 articles were identified, with 16 preselected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The most documented corneal complication was edema, reported in 10 of the studies, representing 62.5% of the total included studies. It is estimated that these complications arise due to inadequate oxygenation and the interaction between the cornea and the lens, as well as improper cleaning methodsdissemination media for its preparation, since it is considered that it should not exceed the interval 150-250 characters. | spa |
