É de amplo consenso que Gustavo Gutiérrez é o pai da Teologia da Libertação. Este artigo se propõe fundamentar tal consenso, apresentando quatro razões. Ele é: pai, por estar engajado em seu contexto e à altura de seu tempo; pai, por fazer a teologia interagir com o novo contexto; pai, por ter mudado a natureza da teologia; pai, por ter mudado o lugar e a função da teologia. As razões apresentadas mostram que, em Gustavo Gutiérrez, não é possível separar sua reflexão teológica de sua biografia e, muito menos estas, do contexto socioeclesial no qual viveu pastoralmente e, a partir do qual, articulou seu discurso teológico. Sua obra-prima não foi uma tarefa solitária; ao contrário, é fruto de uma vivência solidária, de toda uma longa vida, com favelados de sua querida Lima.
There is broad consensus that Gustavo Gutiérrez is the father of Liberation Theology. This article seeks to substantiate this consensus by presenting four reasons. He is: father, for being engaged in his context and in step with his time; father, for making theology interact with the new context; father, for changing the nature of theology; father, changing the place and function of theology. These reasons show that, in Gustavo Gutiérrez, it is impossible to separate his theological reflection from his biography, and even less so from the socio-ecclesial context in which he lived pastorally and from which he articulated his theological discourse. His masterpiece was not a solitary endeavor; on the contrary, it was the fruit of a lifelong experience of solidarity with the slum dwellers of his beloved Lima.
Existe un amplio consenso en que Gustavo Gutiérrez es el padre de la Teología de la Liberación. Este artículo pretende fundamentar este consenso presentando cuatro razones. Él es: padre, por estar comprometido con su contexto y en sintonía con su tiempo; padre, por hacer que la teología interactúe con el nuevo contexto; padre, por cambiar la naturaleza de la teología; padre, por cambiar el lugar y la función de la teología. Estas razones muestran que, en Gustavo Gutiérrez, es imposible separar su reflexión teológica de su biografía, y menos aún del contexto socioeclesial en el que vivió pastoralmente y desde el que articuló su discurso teológico. Su obra maestra no fue un esfuerzo solitario, sino el fruto de una experiencia de solidaridad con los habitantes de los barrios marginales de su querida Lima.
