dc.descriptionIntroducción: El Síndrome Combinado de Kelly (SCK), es una condición odontológica de interés en salud pública dado el impacto que tiene en la calidad de vida, nutrición y función masticatoria del adulto mayor. Reconocer la prevalencia de este evento y factores asociados podría servir de insumo para los tomadores de decisiones políticas de la región. Objetivo: Determinar factores asociados al SCK, en adultos mayores que asisten al programa “Centros Vida” de Bucaramanga. Materiales y Métodos: Estudio analítico transversal que incluyó 190 adultos mayores de Centros Vida durante el 2023, con capacidad funcional para responder cuestionarios validados aplicados de manera presencial, seleccionados mediante muestreo no probabilístico secuencial. Como desenlace se estableció la presencia del Síndrome Combinado de Kelly (SCK), definido en dos categorías: diagnóstico estricto con los cinco signos clásicos descritos por Kelly y diagnóstico ampliado con al menos tres signos presentes. Como exposiciones se consideraron tres grupos de factores: sociodemográficos, clínicos generales y clínicos orales, además de los puntajes obtenidos en los cuestionarios aplicados. Los datos se tabularon en hoja de Microsoft Excel y la base de datos validada se exportó al software STATA 14.0. Se presenta análisis descriptivo con frecuencias absolutas y porcentajes o medidas de tendencia central y dispersión según la naturaleza de los datos. El análisis bivariado incluye razón de prevalencia con intervalo de confianza de 95% (RP IC5%), valores p <0,05 se consideraron de significancia estadística. Análisis de regresión logística se aplicó para generar un modelo predictivo de SCK. El estudio contó con un concepto ético favorable para su ejecución. Resultados: Un total de 190 adultos mayores participaron, siendo el 69,42% mujeres. El 56,84% percibe una calidad de vida baja, 31,58% tiene posibilidad de estar sufriendo un trastorno emocional y el 27,37% un apoyo social percibido bajo. Respecto al SCK, el 8,95% y 45,79% presenta tres y cinco signos respectivamente. Conclusión: Existe alta prevalencia del SCK en adultos mayores de Bucaramanga. Tener más de 69 años, bajos ingresos, estomatitis protésica y requerimiento de prótesis superior, son factores asociados al SCK.
dc.description.abstractBackground: Combined Syndrome (CS) is a dental condition of public health interest given its impact on the quality of life, nutrition, and masticatory function of older adults. Recognizing the prevalence of this event and associated factors could serve as input for political decision-makers in the region. Aim: To determine factors associated with CS in older adults attending the "Centros Vida" program in Bucaramanga. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study that included 190 older adults from Centros Vida during 2023, with the functional capacity to answer validated questionnaires applied in person, samples selected using sequential non-probabilistic. The outcome was the presence of Combined Syndrome (CS), defined in two categories: strict diagnosis with the five classic signs described by Kelly and expanded diagnosis with at least three signs present. Three groups of factors will be considered as exposures: sociodemographic, general clinical, and oral clinical, in addition to the scores obtained in the applied questionnaires. The data were tabulated in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, and the validated database was exported to STATA 14.0 software. Descriptive analysis is presented with absolute frequencies and percentages or measures of central tendency and dispersion according to the nature of the data. Bivariate analysis includes prevalence ratios with 95% confidence intervals (PR 5% CI); p-values <0.05 are considered statistically significant. Logistic regression analysis was applied to generate a predictive model for CS. The study had a favorable ethical concept for its execution. Results: A total of 190 older adults participated, 69.42% of whom were women. 56.84% perceived a low quality of life, 31.58% were likely to be suffering from an emotional disorder, and 27.37% perceived low social support. Regarding CS, 8.95% and 45.79% presented three and five signs, respectively. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of CS in older adults in Bucaramanga. Being over 69 years of age, low income, denture stomatitis, and the need for an upper denture are factors associated with CS.
