| dc.description | In this article, I analyze the book Icarus or the future of science published by Bertrarnd Russell in 1924. In the essay, I analyzed thoroughly the historical (the disenchantment of the World and early twentieth century) and the scholarly background in which the English philosopher exposes his reflections on the inner science dangers for mankind and the possible political consequences in genetic interventions. I show as well the affinities Russel had at that time with critical civilization thinkers like Max Weber, Lukács, Simmel, etc.). On this matter, Russell's exposed reflections, which date from 80 years ago, are current and they could indeed be considered prophetic. They foresee facts that have not occurred yet, but that with the current genetic engineering revolution may come true. | en |
| dc.description | En este artículo se realiza un análisis del libro Ícaro o el futuro de la ciencia publicado por Bertrand Russell en 1924. En el presente ensayo estudio detalladamente el contexto histórico (el desencantamiento del mundo y los inicios del siglo XX) e intelectual en que el filósofo inglés expone sus reflexiones en torno a los peligros que la ciencia entraña para la humanidad, así como de las posibles consecuencias políticas de las intervenciones genéticas. Muestro, igualmente, las afinidades que Russell tuvo en la época con pensadores críticos de la civilización, como Max Weber, Lukács, Simmel, entre otros. En este sentido, las reflexiones expuestas por Russell hace más de ochenta años son actuales y pueden considerarse como verdaderamente proféticas, pues atisban hechos que aún no han sucedido pero que con la actual revolución en la ingeniería genética pueden llegar a ser un hecho. | es |
