Conceptual, theoretical, and historical clarification for an “undisciplined” notion on architecture and its research

dc.descriptionIt seems that understanding the internal relations between the sub-disciplines in Architecture as a founding element of the nature of the architectural knowledge has been laid aside in Colombia because of the need to equate the production of knowledge in Architecture with the production of knowledge in other areas, in the face of the Research Groups and Researchers Evaluation Process led by Conciencias/Minciencias[1]. In that sense, this essay proposes a bibliographical review that harks back to the notions of architecture and its sub-disciplines that were conceptualized by some relevant Latin/Latin-American authors and it brings those notions together with other references. The aim of this paper is to argue the need of rethink the research on architecture beyond the concept “design research”. [1] Colciencias is the acronym for the former Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation that became the current Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Minciencias).en-US
dc.descriptionLa necesidad de equiparar la producción de conocimiento en arquitectura con la producción en otras áreas, que surge en Colombia con el proceso de medición de grupos de investigación e investigadores de Colciencias/Minciencias,[1] parece haber dejado a un lado a la motivación por comprender las relaciones internas entre las sub-disciplinas de la arquitectura como elemento fundante de la naturaleza del conocimiento arquitectural. Frente a ello, este ensayo hace una revisión bibliográfica que recupera las nociones de arquitectura y sus sub-disciplinas conceptuadas por autores relevantes del contexto latino/latinoamericano y las pone en contacto con otras referencias. Se pretende argumentar que es necesario pensar la investigación en arquitectura más allá del concepto “investigación proyectual”.
