Traducción y adaptación transcultural de un cuestionario para evaluar la satisfacción en pacientes portadores de prótesis total

Abstract

Satisfaction questionnaires are a useful tool to help the dentist to determine the level of comfort that the patient has with its total prosthesis. The aim of this study was to perform the translation and cultural adaptation to Colombian Spanish questionnaire that evaluates satisfaction in patients with total hip prosthesis which was created by Turker and Partners, already validated and found originally in English. It was a study evaluating diagnostic test, the population who was targeted was the patients with total hip prosthesis of the University of Santo Tomas, the methodology applied in this study consisted of three phases: translation start, testing and adaptation cultural and retro translation. The results showed that some terms such as "degree of comfort", "chewing ability" among others, were not easily understood by the people intended, and neither was the question no. 8 of the questionnaire, which in the final version was amended and related breath of the person using the total prosthesis. Finally it was determined that the conceptual equivalence of both versions was high, however the terms that were difficult to understand in the local cultural context changed. Cross-cultural adaptation, may have limitations in Colombian territory, due to different cultural contexts that occur throughout the country. In this case, it was applied to individuals Santander-Colombia. This study may initiate or assist future research related to the satisfaction of patients with total prosthesis.
