dc.descriptionThe Mara Salvatrucha 13 and Barrio 18 gangs are the protagonists of recent journalistic chronicles in El Salvador. Through the qualitative analysis of a corpus of chronicles on the gang phenomenon during the governments of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional, FMLN), information contained in the journalistic narrative on four fundamental topics is recovered: 1) the genesis and expansion of gangs; 2) the characterization of gangs by investigative journalism, with an emphasis on the phenomena of territorial control; 3) the narrative about gang violence through emblematic characters; and 4) the contrast between negotiation and confrontation that characterized the FMLN governments in dealing with the gangs problem.en
dc.descriptionLas pandillas Mara Salvatrucha 13 y Barrio 18 son las protagonistas de las crónicas periodísticas de los últimos tiempos en El Salvador. Por medio del análisis cualitativo de un corpus de crónicas sobre el fenómeno pandilleril durante los gobiernos del Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN), se recupera información contenida en la narrativa periodística sobre cuatro temáticas fundamentales: 1) la génesis y expansión de las pandillas; 2) la caracterización de las pandillas por parte del periodismo de investigación, con énfasis en los fenómenos de control territorial, 3) la narrativa sobre la violencia pandilleril a través de personajes emblemáticos; y 4) el contraste entre la negociación y la confrontación que caracterizó a los gobiernos del FMLN al hacerle frente a la problemática de las maras.es
