This academic article is a tribute to the great Peruvian Dominican theologian, pioneer of Liberation Theology (whom we consider Liberator of a theology as disembodied as it is dogmatic and dualistic), who died three months ago, who with his dedication for more than half a century marked a milestone that will endure with ecumenical and interreligious implications throughout this 21st century. We address his Semblance (‘Face and Trace’) to then stop at his innovative Liberating Spirituality, highlighting the most relevant and praxeological aspects of the itinerary of his testimonial thought, recognized by Pope Francis when Gustavo Gutiérrez Merino turned 90 years old (2018).
