Evaluación del estado nutricional relacionado con el edentulismo en adultos mayores del programa “Centros Vida” en Bucaramanga

Abstract

Introduction: The nutritional status of people in general and older adults is an important factor, since numerous investigations have shown that the main causes of death in older people are non-communicable diseases, where an unhealthy diet is one of the factors. determining risk; In addition, malnutrition in elderly patients may have a relationship with the structures of the oral cavity, due to its direct implication with the chewing mechanisms of food. Aim: To evaluate the relationship between nutritional status and dental loss and dental status. prosthetic in older adult patients from the Centros Vida in Bucaramanga, 2023 Materials and methods: Cross-sectional analytical observational study in which 121 older adults from the Centros Vida de Bucaramanga participated; Sociodemographic variables, nutritional status (MNA Assessment), quality of life related to oral health (GOHAI), tooth loss and prosthetic status were evaluated. Results: 38.84% of older adults were at risk of malnutrition and 5.79% were at risk of malnutrition. was classified as malnourished. The majority of people with a good quality of life had a normal nutritional status (77.78%), while in the group of people with a low quality of life the majority had a risk of malnutrition (57.97%), being This is a significant difference (p= 0.002). Conclusions: Almost half of older adults were at risk of malnutrition. There was an association between having a low quality of life related to oral health and the risk of malnutrition.
