    (2025-01-28) Idárraga-Ortiz, Sergio Alejandro; Vargas Leal, Viviana Marcela; https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=es&user=tmSdGUAAAAAJ; https://scholar.google.com/citations?hl=es&user=tY5Iy0oAAAAJ; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2551-0766; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6241-3239
The report analyzes the scientific output of the Universidad Santo Tomás, Bucaramanga Campus, during the 2021-2024 period, based on data obtained from Scopus and utilizing analytical tools such as VantagePoint and VOSViewer, all under the guidelines of the UNE 166006 (2018) standard: "Technology Watch and Competitive Intelligence System." This analysis identifies key trends and provides a detailed overview of the institution's academic and research performance during the specified period. Some noteworthy results include the following: the Bucaramanga Campus contributed 18% of the scientific output of the Universidad Santo Tomás multicampus between 2021 and 2024. The most prominent fields were medicine, dentistry, and optometry, followed by technological areas such as mechatronic engineering and environmental chemistry. Scientific articles accounted for 78.7% of the publications during this period, although a decline was observed in 2023 and 2024 due to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic, changes in institutional strategies, and adjustments in the recognition of conference publications. A total of 27% of the campus's publications were in high-impact journals classified in the Q1 quartile of Scimago, reflecting an institutional effort to prioritize quality over quantity. International collaboration accounted for 45.5% of the total, generating an average of 3.6 citations per document, making it the most impactful mode of collaboration. Strong alliances were identified with institutions such as the Universidade de São Paulo and the Universidad de Chile, along with ties to academic centers in Europe and North America. Meanwhile, national collaboration contributed 35.1% of the publications, with key partners such as the Universidad de Santander (UDES) and the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), highlighting the importance of regional alliances for enhancing research visibility and strengthening academic output. In the faculty analysis, Dentistry led in both volume and impact, accumulating the highest number of publications and citations. It was followed by Basic Sciences, Environmental Chemistry, and Physical Culture, Sports, and Recreation, which stood out for their consistent performance. However, the report revealed that 33% of the publications did not specify their affiliation with faculties or departments, limiting the ability to evaluate the specific performance of academic units. This situation underscores the importance of strengthening the use of institutional affiliation tools, which are already available at the university. Regarding the contribution of publications to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a total of 68 indexed documents addressed topics such as health and well-being, quality education, and responsible consumption and production. Some studies impacted multiple SDGs, highlighting the university's ability to tackle global challenges through an interdisciplinary approach. The report concludes that, despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic and other challenges, the Universidad Santo Tomás, Bucaramanga Campus, has maintained consistent performance in generating scientific knowledge. It is recommended to prioritize publishing in high-impact journals, increase interdisciplinary collaboration, and diversify research areas to enhance the visibility and impact of institutional scientific output. This analysis serves as a key tool for strategic planning and strengthening the university's research capabilities in a globally competitive context.

The report presents a comprehensive analysis to support the creation of a Master’s Program in Landscape and Habitat Management at Universidad Santo Tomás, Bucaramanga campus, through a technological surveillance and competitive intelligence approach. This analysis addresses global challenges such as climate change, environmental sustainability, and landscape management, aligning the academic proposal with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and labor market demands. The program aims to train professionals with advanced skills to design and manage nature-based solutions, promoting biodiversity, climate resilience, and quality of life. The methodological analysis employed bibliometric tools, data mining, and artificial intelligence to identify scientific and technical trends related to landscape and habitat management. The results highlight the existence of 18 similar master’s programs in Colombia, with Bogotá as the primary educational hub, while the Santander region lacks offerings in this field. In terms of research, 27 active groups related to landscape and habitat were identified in Colombia, with which the university could collaborate to strengthen the master’s program. Additionally, academic statistics show recent growth in enrollments and graduations in similar programs, indicating increasing interest in this area. Employability indicators are also positive, with contribution rates exceeding 90% in several related master’s programs, reinforcing the graduates' job market viability. The study identifies nine key trends in the discipline, including climate change adaptation, digitalization in landscape design, ecological restoration, participatory governance, and innovation in sustainable materials. These areas emphasize the relevance of the master’s program in addressing contemporary problems from a multidisciplinary perspective. Thus, the master’s program proposal is supported by a solid academic and strategic foundation, aligning with the region's educational needs and global trends. Universidad Santo Tomás has an opportunity to position itself as a benchmark in sustainability and landscape management, contributing to sustainable development and the strengthening of Colombia's educational offerings.

Currently, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) assume an important challenge in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially in relation to objective 4 called Quality Education; For the educational offer of the HEIs to be timely and respond to the needs of the environment, it is necessary to adopt the new teaching-learning modalities and the new technologies that promote an educational reform that promotes the promotion of knowledge in the new realities. In Colombia, the HEIs compete with the national and international offer, so it is crucial to identify educational trends and references in the modalities of training and teaching methods in Higher Education, for this, a technological surveillance exercise was developed with the application of the analysis bibliometric and text mining that yielded the following results: a growing trend is observed in the dissemination of research papers, in which 2020 and 2021 are the years of greatest scientific activity, coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic, the rate annual growth (2010 -2022) was 23.35% with R² = 0.9912; Most of the publications are in Social Sciences (32%), followed by Computer Sciences (29%), Engineering (12%), Medicine (5%) and Mathematics (4%); The leading countries in this production are the United States with 3,413 (15.07%), followed by the United Kingdom with 1,894 (8.36%), Spain with 1,762 (7.78%) and China with 1,567 (6.92%). At the Latin American level, Brazil contributed 471 (2.08%) documents, followed by Mexico with 310 (1.37%), Colombia with 194 (0.86%), Ecuador with 156 (0.69%); From the analysis of key terms, e-learning and online learning stand out as the modalities with the greatest approach by researchers. On the other hand, from the identification of the offer of the Bucaramanga campus of the Universidad Santo Tomás, specific scientometric analyzes were carried out for the areas of knowledge related to each academic division, with which the leading institutions in educational innovation were identified throughout the world and Latin America. Finally, a review of the trends in teaching and learning methodologies was carried out, of which the implementation of e-learning, hybrid methodologies with flexible face-to-face training, training through micro-credentials, and the need to adopt the technologies implemented in education 4.0 such as Big data, artificial intelligence, robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
