The study aims to identify and analyze their territorial, cultural, and housing dynamics in order to establish a foundation for future research on spatial design and traditional construction techniques, ensuring cultural relevance and environmental sustainability. Adopting a qualitative approach with an ethnographic perspective, the study employed social mapping, semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and descriptive table-based analysis. The findings reveal a dispersed settlement pattern, the central role of the tambo as both a physical and symbolic core, and a close relationship between housing, territory, and cultural practices. Self-construction, the use of locally sourced materials, and traditional ecological knowledge emerge as key drivers of sustainability and social cohesion. This diagnostic assessment provides valuable inputs for participatory territorial planning and the development of housing strategies adapted to Indigenous contexts.Tipo de ítem: Ítem , Del saber ancestral al diseño contemporáneo(2025) Marín Echeverri, Manuela; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0001777768; https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=nUexMEUAAAAJ&hl=es; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/gruplac/jsp/visualiza/visualizagr.jsp?nro=00000000009601; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-8452-145XThis research project examines the self-construction practices of the Emberá Katío Eyabida community in Urrao, Antioquia, by developing a comprehensive understanding of the physical-cultural landscape and its relationship to sustainability. Using a qualitative approach grounded in architectural ethnography, the study conducted differentiated participatory workshops with various age groups, complemented by interviews and direct observation. The findings reveal that community spatial representations, including drawings, sketches, and diagrams, constitute landscape constructs that integrate housing, activities, and territory, highlighting complementary perspectives between children and adults. Additionally, ancestral knowledge associated with self-construction practices and the use of local materials was identified as an active strategy for ecological adaptation and social cohesion. As a result, the study proposes a flexible, replicable, self-build collective space prototype that integrates ancestral knowledge with passive bioclimatic strategies. This proposal provides a transferable methodological framework that can be adapted to other rural and Indigenous contexts.
