    This video presents the project “Generation of chemosensors form the bacterial cellulose/quantum dots/diothiozone nanocomposite applied to the detection of heavy metals: contaminants with an impact on environmental health”, focused on the development of a device to detect heavy metals in aqueous solutions, particularly targeting contaminants generated by mining activities in the Vetas and California regions of Colombia. Using nanotechnology, the device combines bacterial nanocellulose and quantum dots to accurately identify metals such as mercury, lead, and copper through a process known as fluorescence quenching. This technological advance seeks to protect the environment in areas affected by mining pollution. In addition, the project involves contributions form both undergraduate and master’s students in chemistry.

    The production of the audiovisual content “Economía circular en casa” is carried out within the framework of the project “Estudio de la generación y composición de los residuos sólidos residenciales en el marco de los principios de economía circular en los diferentes estratos socioeconómicos de los municipios de Bucaramanga y Piedecuesta”. The video is informative in nature and its purpose is to teach how to minimize waste and make more efficient use of resources. Initially, the difference between plant waste and garbage is described and its relationship with the circular economy is explained. It also mentions the problems of depositing plant waste in landfills such as bad odors, leachate and soil contamination. In this composting workshop, the necessary elements are described and the composting process with organic waste is explained step by step. Through this process, the importance of converting waste into compost is highlighted.
