Abstract

The World Trade Organization (WTO) regulates international trade, promoting liberalization and seeking a fair and equitable framework for transactions between nations. However, its effectiveness in protecting developing and small countries is debated, as they face challenges due to their lower economic and political power compared to great powers. This creates tensions in the implementation of policies designed to balance interests between developed and developing countries. The WTO's dispute settlement mechanism allows trade conflicts to be resolved regardless of the size or power of countries, but its effectiveness in defending smaller countries remains questioned, as it could perpetuate structural inequalities. This work analyzes how WTO policies affect developing countries, their impact on global power dynamics, and the effectiveness of the dispute mechanism in protecting the less powerful. Cases and policies will be examined to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the system, seeking more equitable international trade.
