El presente trabajo indaga “el revestimiento arquitectónico como mediador entre el espacio interior y exterior”, más allá de su concepción como simple piel del edificio o espacio público. Se fundamenta en teorías de tectónica, liturgia, percepción espacial y oficio, abordando ideas de autores como Las variaciones de la identidad (Marti Arís, C. 1993) identificando las partes, subsistemas y estructuras formales de los casos de estudios; en El fuego y su protección, escritos fundamentales de Gottfried Semper (Armesto, A. 2014). destacando su primer y segundo sistema, y Arquitectura: Ritos y ritmos (Arnau amo, J. 2006) especifica la función litúrgica como simbolismo la capacidad de articular ritmos, recorridos y símbolos, que conecten lo físico con lo espiritual; en El principio del revestimiento análisis intenciones sintácticas (Loos, A. 1931) define que el material tiene un simbolismo; y en Principio del revestimiento (Fanelli, G., & Gargiani, R. 1996) el detalle y sus intenciones con su material y como se construye con ese material detallando cuidadosamente los elementos que lo sostienen.
A través del análisis crítico de casos emblemáticos de Rogelio Salmona (Archivo General de la Nación y Centro Cultural de Moravia), en los que identifica estrategias proyectuales que utilizan el ladrillo para lograr continuidad material y conexión con el contexto urbano. El revestimiento, articulado con el oficio local y la memoria del lugar, potencia la permeabilidad espacial, fomentando una relación armónica entre el proyecto y su entorno.
Abstract
This work investigates “architectural cladding as a mediator between interior and exterior spaces”, moving beyond its conception as a mere skin of the building or public space. It is grounded in theories of tectonics, liturgy, spatial perception, and craftsmanship, drawing on ideas from authors such as The Variations of Identity (Martí Arís, 1993), which identifies parts, subsystems, and formal structures in case studies; The Fire and Its Protection, Fundamental Writings of Gottfried Semper (Armesto, 2014), emphasizing the first and second systems; and Architecture: Rituals and Rhythms (Arnau Amo, 2006), which highlights the liturgical function as a symbolism capable of articulating rhythms, paths, and symbols that link the physical and the spiritual. Likewise, The Principle of Cladding: Analysis of Syntactic Intentions (Loos, 1931) defines material as symbolic, and Principle of Cladding (Fanelli & Gargiani, 1996) addresses the detail, material intention, and careful construction of supporting elements.
Through a critical analysis of emblematic works by Rogelio Salmona (Archivo General de la Nación and Centro Cultural de Moravia), this study identifies design strategies that employ brick to achieve material continuity and connection with the urban context. Cladding, combined with local craftsmanship and the memory of place, enhances spatial permeability, fostering a harmonious relationship between the project and its environment.
