Este articulo surge del interés del investigador, que lo realizo como tesis en su pregrado
de Psicología en el año 2006 (Ramírez Hermida 2006). El autor manifiesta que el
pensamiento de Tomás de Aquino, con su profundo enfoque en las pasiones del alma, sigue
resonando incluso en nuestros tiempos, especialmente en la Psicología humanista moderna.
En su tratado sobre las pasiones, Aquino aborda las emociones como fuerzas esenciales que
conectan mente y cuerpo, integrando razón, espiritualidad y humanidad. Esta visión se alinea
sorprendentemente con las corrientes psicológicas contemporáneas que promueven el
desarrollo integral del ser humano, como las teorías de Maslow y Rogers.
Esta investigación invita a reflexionar sobre las influencias y los diálogos posibles entre
ambas perspectivas. ¿Cómo un pensador medieval pudo anticipar valores centrales de la
Psicología humanista? ¿Qué aportes específicos del pensamiento tomista podrían enriquecer
las teorías modernas sobre las emociones y el comportamiento humano? A través de un
análisis profundo y crítico, se exploran tanto las convergencias como las diferencias,
invitando al lector a descubrir cómo las ideas de Tomás trascienden el tiempo y ofrecen
nuevas luces para comprender la complejidad de la naturaleza humana.
Abstract
This article arose from the researcher's interest, which was written as a thesis for his
undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2006. The author states that the thought of Thomas
Aquinas, with its profound focus on the passions of the soul, continues to resonate even in
our times, especially in modern humanistic psychology. In his treatise on the passions,
Aquinas addresses emotions as essential forces that connect mind and body, integrating
reason, spirituality, and humanity. This view aligns strikingly with contemporary
psychological currents that promote the integral development of the human being, such as
the theories of Maslow and Rogers.
This research invites reflection on the influences and possible dialogues between both
perspectives. How could a medieval thinker anticipate core values of humanistic psychology?
What specific contributions of Thomistic thought could enrich modern theories of emotions
and human behavior? Through a deep and critical analysis, both convergences and
differences are explored, inviting the reader to discover how Thomas's ideas transcend time
and offer new insights into the complexity of human nature.
