Ahorro y protección económica para la vejez de los trabajadores colombianos: Un análisis a partir de la GEIH 2010

Abstract

Economic security for old age is a challenge for the Colombian population given that by 2050, it is expected that more than 20% of the population will be over 60 years of age, which is why it is worth examining the income, consumption and savings characteristics of the Colombian working population. This study determines the level of savings of the Colombian working population and answers the question: What are the probabilities of Colombian workers having economic protection for their old age through savings? To answer this question, an analysis of Colombian workers in 2010 was carried out using data from the large integrated household survey (GEIH) according to their level of income, spending and savings. Subsequently, a probabilistic model was developed to demonstrate the relationship between savings and the possibility of being financially protected in old age. Finally, based on the results of the statistical model, public policy recommendations are formulated regarding savings for old age.
