Describing the EFL teaching process through the enjoying-reading strategy in the senior cycle under the homeschool modality in M & M Foundation.

Abstract

At the M & M Foundation of Villanueva Casanare, English as a foreign language has been taught with the strategy of enjoying-reading, which is an institutional strategy that focuses in the use of English, vocabulary in context and reading comprehension, and with it the students have achieved English levels such as B2 and C1. Therefore, the present research project has the objective to describe the EFL teaching process through enjoying-reading strategy in the senior cycle under the Homeschool modality in M & M Foundation. This study is based on the case study methodology, obtaining information from data collection instruments such as the semi-structured interview and non-participant observation. Regarding the participants, four English tutors and the director of the foundation were chosen, and on the information obtained, a qualitative data analysis was carried out following the proposal of Diaz (2009) which consisted of 3 steps: first, reduce data and generate categories; second, compare, relate and classify the categories; third, interpret and discuss the results. In the discussion of the results, the most relevant information of the following categorie y subcategories were shown: English teaching process, use of English language, relationship between teacher and student, enjoy-reading strategy, students, tutor profile, Homeschool influence. To conclude, this case study showed how to teach the English language through the enjoying-reading strategy under the Homeschool modality, which is helping students obtain English levels such as B2 and C1. Also, Homeschool has a positive impact on the English teaching process because it gives the foundation the flexibility to teach English as they want.
