Abstract

This project research project examines the relationship between healing gardens and hospital architecture, proposing the incorporation of nature as an active design strategy for the generation of therapeutic environments. It is based on the recognition that the contemporary hospital infrastructure, by prioritizing functional efficiency, has tended to disconnect from the sensory and emotional dimensions of living, affecting the experience of patients, medical staff, and visitors. From an interdisciplinary perspective, it is proposed how healing gardens can function as a living infrastructure capable of integrating ecological systems and human processes in the hospital setting. It is conceived as a structuring component of the therapeutic space and collective well-being. In this vision, architecture acts as a mediator between science and nature, generating spaces that contribute to the healing process through the control of form, light, sound and landscape. Thus, the project seeks to demonstrate the potential of architectural design as a tool to humanize health care environments and restore the essential link between the body, the environment and life.
