Abstract

In Villavicencio, cultural spaces are fragmented, and there is a clear lack of adequate areas for artistic expressions and urban activities. This situation has created a context where cultural spaces fail to fulfill their intended function. Therefore, an architectural design is proposed to unify these spaces, addressing the issue on two scales: the architectural scale, as the central axis, and the urban scale, as a complement to the planning process, with particular emphasis on the areas near the Caño Parrado. The architectural design is based on the creation of a Cultural Center that formally and functionally integrates cultural activities, solving spatial problems while valuing pre-existing elements as carriers of the memory, history, and traditions of the place. On an urban scale, the water's edge is used as a structuring element that not only organizes the space but also serves as the central axis of the composition, connecting Cristo Rey Street, the Children's Park, and the Artisans' Park, creating a cultural pathway that unifies fragmented spaces and gives rise to a creative district—a point of convergence where various artistic expressions can coexist and develop mutually. This unification system reflects an integration strategy that links fragmented cultural spaces under a scheme that forms a cohesive system, where the individual elements combine to create a functional cultural ensemble.
