Abstract

The municipality of El Peñol, not only has been hit by violence generated by groups outside the law, but also, by the fact that its inhabitants have been forced to leave their lives and memories under water, when they had to leave its terroir to make way for what EPM said would be “evolution”, because there a hydroelectric plant would be built that would supply energy to more than half of the country. They deceived them with the promise of a better lifestyle, with better location and greater and better opportunities. But in reality what they were given was the opposite, without a central park, without a market square, the church much smaller than the original and with less fertile lands than those that had to leave. This fact sowed in them resentment and distrust, making them a little hostile to strangers. The period of violence that followed the transfer of the municipality, forced them to leave their lands again to leave them in the hands of armed groups but they resisted doing so and preferred not to work their lands, giving them to the violent ones in order to remain there; they were forced to look for new ways of sustaining their day to day and so little by little, their tradition and agricultural identity were weakened to the point of leaving them without identity, especially to those who reside in the rural area. For the above reasons, the “Sowing Knowledge Park”, is a proposal that confronts the previous problems, providing people from the most remote areas of the urban area, a space in which to find recreational, educational, commercial and work revolving around agriculture, becoming, in addition, a tourist attraction in which they can recover their agricultural identity and expose it to those who visit this place.
