El propósito general de esta obra es contribuir al estudio del arte religioso en la Orden de
Predicadores del Nuevo Reino de Granada durante la Colonia. Si bien es cierto que la temática
del arte colonial ha cobrado recientemente un gran protagonismo en la historiografía nacional,
esta era prácticamente inédita en el horizonte historiográfico sobre los dominicos en Colombia,
a pesar de que la comunidad fue depositaria de una amplia colección de arte. En este sentido
destacamos el papel del padre provincial Orlando Rueda Acevedo, o.p., quien desde hace ya
un par de lustros se ha preocupado porque en el ambiente cultural en general, y entre la misma
familia dominicana, se conozca, rescate y valore su patrimonio artístico (Rueda, 1995, p. 565).
Abstract
The general purpose of this work is to contribute to the study of the religious art in the Order of Preachers in the New Kingdom of
Preachers of the New Kingdom of Granada during the Colony. While it is true that the subject of colonial art
