This paper analyzes how fanzines, as self-managed editorial graphic processes, maintain their expressive and cultural function through their materiality and manual processes in a globalized context that transforms the notions of personal and collective, based on a qualitative approach and a case study of three different creative fanzines present at the Feria Papel Caliente 2025, We also evaluated the area that the fair provided for the creation of a personalized editorial product based on fragments of the exhibitors' creations, allowing us to understand how the materiality of the fanzines retains its personal and collective expressive value in globalized contexts. This analysis highlights the possible ways in which expression is found as an essential part of fanzines as self-managed products of contemporary editorial design that resist the visual standardization arising from globalism.

Creatividad artificial y creatividad humana en la producción de elementos digitales para el diseño gráfico actual
(2025-10) Sanchez Escobar, Andres Felipe; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://orcid.org/0009-0007-5096-5539
This monograph analyzes the relationship between human and artificial creativity in contemporary graphic design amid the rise of artificial intelligence (2020–2025). Through a qualitative and documentary approach, it reviews recent research on the ethical, aesthetic, and professional implications of AI in design. Results show that although AI enhances efficiency and expands creative possibilities, it lacks the cultural sensitivity and communicative intent that define human creativity. The study concludes that both forms of creativity are complementary: AI acts as a tool for exploration, while designers retain a critical and ethical role. In Colombia, this integration represents both a challenge and an opportunity to strengthen the professional identity of graphic designers in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The consumption of music on digital platforms has transformed how audiences engage with artists, reducing the experience to a purely auditory and often superficial interaction. In this context, album covers—once powerful spaces of artistic and conceptual expression—have lost their emotional impact on the audience. This project aims to restore that connection through graphic design, animation, and multimedia by developing animated album covers that strengthen the visual identity of emerging artists. Using a qualitative methodology with exploratory, descriptive, and applied approaches, this research analyzes the visual and emotional perceptions of young artists and listeners to identify symbolic and aesthetic patterns that guide the creation of animated prototypes. These prototypes are integrated into an interactive web platform that expands the musical experience beyond sound, immersing the audience in visual worlds that reflect the artist’s essence. The expected outcome is an immersive design proposal that redefines the relationship between music and image, fostering a more emotional and meaningful digital listening experience.

The E-Live project proposes to create a web platform to improve the recruitment of amateur and semi-professional esports players (Tier 3) in Latin America. It arises due to the lack of specialized spaces that connect players and teams in an organized way, since currently these processes occur in social networks or informal forums, generating disorder and few opportunities. E-Live centralizes player information, offering profiles with statistics, competitive data and availability, and will allow teams to easily search and filter talent. It also includes scrims and tournaments modules, to increase the visibility and competitive level of users. The project also supports SDGs 8 and 9, promoting decent digital work, innovation and technological development in the region.

This project proposes the design of an interactive and illustrated digital book aimed at children aged 8 to 12 in Bogotá, to clearly and attractively communicate the importance of responsible coexistence with urban animals. In the city, species such as pigeons, rats, stray dogs, and cats are often perceived negatively, generating rejection and mistreatment. This reflects a lack of environmental education that prevents recognizing their ecological role in urban ecosystems. The project follows a mixed, applied, and exploratory methodology based on the Double Diamond model and the Design Thinking approach to develop a visual and interactive educational proposal that fosters empathy and environmental awareness. Through visual narratives, stories, and dynamic activities, the book aims to promote values of respect and responsibility among children. The outcome is an educational tool aligned with SDG 15: Life on Land, contributing to the appreciation of urban biodiversity and strengthening the relationship between citizens and their natural environment.

Tinta Libre is a research-creation initiative from the field of graphic design that aims to change the perception of graffiti in Bogotá, traditionally linked to vandalism, into a cultural, aesthetic, and community practice. Through an interactive blog, the project showcases young urban artists (ages 15-20) by integrating voices, narratives, images, products, and cultural maps. Using the "Transparent Box" methodology (exploration, design, and participatory validation), it demonstrates the potential of design as a cultural mediator and an agent of social change, fostering inclusion and participation.

(2025-11) Guerrero, Vanessa; Ramírez, Valentina; Linares, Juan; López, Camila; Universidad Santo Tomás
Latente is a visual and narrative project that approaches mental health from a sensitive and creative perspective. Its goal is to symbolically and emotionally represent three psychological conditions: anxiety, bipolar disorder, and phobias. Through a digital comic complemented by animations, the project gives form to internal experiences that are often difficult to express in words, inviting viewers to empathize with those who live with them. The project uses illustration, color, visual rhythm, and movement as expressive tools to reflect the instability, contrasts, and depth of the human mind. More than informing, Latente offers a sensory and reflective experience that challenges stigma and opens a dialogue about the importance of understanding what is not always seen, what remains hidden, yet exists and quietly breathes within each person.

The LUKA project was created in response to the lack of financial education among young Colombian adults between the ages of 18 and 22—an issue that limits their economic autonomy and their ability to make responsible decisions about saving, credit, and investment. This situation reinforces inequality and hinders the development of long-term well-being, highlighting the need for a proposal that combines learning, accessibility, and design through a clear and visually engaging approach. The main objective is to design an interactive web interface that facilitates the understanding of basic financial concepts through graphic and dynamic resources, promoting clear and appealing learning adapted to the language of young people. LUKA seeks to transform complex topics into interactive and meaningful experiences. To achieve this, the project adopts a mixed, exploratory, descriptive and project-based methodology, integrating quantitative and qualitative techniques such as surveys, interviews, and usability testing. These tools will make it possible to understand the real needs of the target audience and validate the effectiveness of the proposed design. The expected outcome is a visual, gamified educational platform that translates financial concepts into accessible experiences, encouraging healthy financial habits. Consequently, the project directly benefits young Colombian adults, strengthens their financial education, and contributes to the fulfillment of SDGs 4 and 8, related to quality education and decent work.

In Bogota, animal abuse remains a concern, especially in vulnerable areas where there is little education on animal welfare. This project proposes the creation of an interactive booklet aimed at children from 5 to 10 years, with the aim of promoting respect as well as care for animals from an early age. Through playful activities, close narratives and visual resources designed for this stage of development, we seek to sensitize children about animal abuse, its causes, consequences, as well as ways to prevent it. Unlike other materials that focus solely on responsible adoption, this book addresses the issue of abuse in a direct and understandable way, promoting empathy and a sense of responsibility. The proposal arises from the need to have pedagogical tools that reinforce the values of coexistence, in addition to respect for sentient beings, while complementing public policies and strengthen the citizen culture around animal welfare. Children are expected not only to acquire knowledge, but also to become promoters of good treatment for animals in their family and social environment.

Rojo y azul: Evolución simbólica del color en la comunicación política impresa en Colombia (siglos XX–XXI)
(2025-10) Puentes Prieto, Yency Vanessa; Universidad Santo Tomás; https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=0002297596; https://orcid.org/0009-0004-8030-430X
This study analyzes the symbolic evolution of red and blue in Colombian printed political communication from the mid-twentieth century to the present, understanding color as a cultural and semiotic sign within graphic discourse. Using a qualitative and historical-comparative approach, four political campaigns—two from the 20th century and two from the 21st—are examined to identify how chromatic codes have shifted from partisan emblems to strategies of emotional persuasion. The analysis integrates visual semiotics (Van Leeuwen, 2011) and color theory (Itten, 1970; Gage, 1999), as well as the sociopolitical and technical contexts of printing in Colombia. Results show that red, associated with mobilization and social struggle, and blue, with authority and trust, have remained constant yet redefined in contemporary political advertising. From the field of graphic design, color is understood not as a decorative element but as a mediator between ideology, perception, and visual memory.

Ukiyo-e, the Japanese art of woodblock printing that flourished during the Edo period (1603–1868), continues to inspire artists around the world for its simplicity, elegance, and narrative power. This research explores how the visual language of Ukiyo-e, its use of line, color, and composition, can be adapted and reinterpreted within contemporary illustration and editorial design. Through theoretical analysis and case studies, the study examines the historical evolution of Ukiyo-e, its impact on modern art movements, and its lasting influence on digital and graphic practices today. In addition, it identifies Latin American illustrators who have reimagined this aesthetic in their own visual languages, bridging cultures and eras. The project culminates in the proposal of an illustrated manual that simplifies the understanding of Ukiyo-e for new audiences, promoting an accessible and reflective approach to art-making. Ultimately, this research demonstrates that the essence of Ukiyo-e —the beauty of the fleeting moment— remains a timeless tool for visual storytelling in today’s fast-paced creative world.

Colombia is the country with the greatest number and diversity of bird species in the world. However, due to both natural and external factors such as habitat loss, wildfi res, hunting, and deforestation, many species have been pushed to the brink of extinction. In light of this, raising awareness about biodiversity conservation is essential. Surveys conducted among children aged 6–10 revealed a signifi cant lack of knowledge about Colombian birdlife. This lack of information limits not only their cultural and symbolic understanding but also their awareness of the essential ecological roles these species play. Plumas al Pasado was created to help recover the memory of extinct and endangered bird species from the Colombian Andean region. Through editorial design, education, and animation, the project developed an interactive fi eld-diary-style book that includes information about the birds, engaging activities, ambient sounds, illustrations, and augmented reality features via the “PlumApp,” which allows readers to visualize the birds directly from the book. As a methodology, we applied design thinking and collected both documentary and exploratory data through surveys of children aged 6–10 to assess their knowledge of the topic, as well as interviews with ornithologists and experts from the Humboldt Institute, who were presented with an initial prototype of the book.
