| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Fourth-generation zirconia (4Y-PSZ) has gained importance in restorative dentistry due to its balanced mechanical and esthetic properties. However, the stability of its bonding to self-adhesive resin cements containing 10-MDP remains a topic of interest, particularly when surface treatments and artificial aging procedures are involved. Aim: To analyze the bond strength of fourth-generation zirconia cemented with self-adhesive materials containing 10-MDP, with and without surface treatment and/or thermocycling, based on available in vitro experimental evidence. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. In vitro experimental studies published within the last five years evaluating the adhesion of fourth-generation zirconia using 10-MDP-containing materials were included. After the selection process, nine studies were included in the qualitative analysis. Reporting quality was assessed using the CRIS checklist for in vitro studies. Results: Reported bond strength values ranged from 4.2 to 52.7 MPa. Air abrasion with 50 μm aluminum oxide particles and the application of 10-MDP primers were the surface treatments most consistently associated with improved bond strength. Thermocycling reduced bond strength by approximately 20% to 50% in most studies. Fourth-generation zirconia showed bonding performance comparable to other zirconia generations and demonstrated greater adhesive stability than zirconias with higher yttria content. Regarding reporting quality, three studies were classified as high quality and six as moderate quality. Conclusions: Fourth-generation zirconia cemented with self-adhesive materials containing 10-MDP exhibits adequate bond strength. The combination of mechanical and chemical surface treatments significantly enhances adhesion, whereas thermal aging negatively affects bond durability. The available evidence shows moderate to high reporting quality, although further standardized studies with greater clinical relevance are needed. | |
