| dc.description.abstract | The creation of a plant-based biofilter is an idea that has gained traction in recent years, as it offers a renewable alternative for filtering and removing atmospheric pollutants. The proposed concept utilizes plants common to the Bogotá savanna, specifically English ivy (*Hedera helix*) and snake plant (*Sansevieria trifasciata*). The objective was to create a system capable of mitigating the generation of PM2.5, PM10, and VOCs at the Santo Tomás University (Calle 51 campus). A functional biofilter was constructed, achieving an average PM10 removal rate of 49.05% (ranging from 36.79% to 69.48%) and an average PM2.5 removal rate of 26.32% (ranging from 8.28% to 54.88%); data dispersion was observed in these removal figures. Variations were also noted regarding VOCs, leading to an analysis of potential reasons for the obtained results. It should be noted that these results were obtained under varying conditions, including peak and off-peak hours, fan operation (on/off status), and days of the week with the highest pollutant concentrations. | |
