El presente capítulo aborda las distintas temáticas representadas en las obras de arte colonial
pertenecientes a la Orden de Predicadores, las cuales fueron empleadas como medio de
evangelización y como un instrumento para reforzar o mantener los preceptos cristianos de la
fe católica en la población neogranadina. Se parte de la premisa de que estas obras fueron en su
gran mayoría expresiones artísticas híbridas, al recurrir cada una de ellas a múltiples técnicas de
elaboración e incorporar variados sistemas de símbolos en su composición1
