El proceso intelectual de la profecía según Santo Tomás

Abstract

This work approaches prophecy by taking up the legacy of St. Thomas, who, in studying the charisms enumerated by St. Paul, directs his study from the point of view of knowledge. The distinctive feature of these charisms is that they bring the message of divine revelation to men through some privileged persons on whom these graces are conferred. This mission is primarily intellectual in nature, since its purpose is to propose to human intelligence the thoughts and intentions of God. Thus, it is possible to affirm that prophecy is, above all, a gift of knowledge. The prophet receives from on high not only the intellectual light that assures and makes true this knowledge, but he is given the matter of this knowledge, that is, what the Angelic Doctor calls acceptio specierum and the judicium de acceptis. Moreover, since God wants the message entrusted to the prophet to be transmitted to men, the divine legacy also enjoys the gift of tongues, which makes it accessible to all men, and the gift of working miracles to bear witness to the truth of his mission. This publication corresponds to the thesis originally written in Latin that the author elaborated to obtain the degree of licentiate in theology at the Pontificium Institutum Internationale Angelicum in Rome. The recovery of this work constitutes a notable contribution to the memory of the Order of Preachers in Colombia, as well as to Dominican and Latin American theology.
