This document refers to the administrative benefit of preparatory release, which is contained in Article 148 of Law 65 of 1993, as an instrument to achieve the purpose of the resocialization of the sentence. It grants a person deprived of liberty the opportunity to work, provided they comply with the rules of conduct established to access this benefit. It is an administrative measure that dignifies the convicted person by allowing them to engage in study and work activities during the day, with the obligation to return to prison at night. In Colombia, the sentences imposed on individuals through the accusatory criminal justice system not only have a preventive and deterrent aim regarding the commission of crimes, but also seek to provide constant support to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), so that the State becomes an active agent in promoting proper behavior. From this social issue, an analysis will be carried out, driven by the interest in understanding the effectiveness of the instruments established to achieve the purpose of the sentence, such as resocialization. It is necessary to study the procedures and methods used for this purpose.

This book brings together a selection of ten research projects developed by students from the Faculty of Systems Engineering at Universidad Santo Tomás, organized into three thematic chapters: Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Transformation. Each chapter reflects the academic and applied approach that characterizes research and education within the Faculty, presenting innovative solutions to real-world challenges. The first chapter addresses advances in methodologies, architectures, and pedagogical strategies applied to software development, highlighting approaches such as gamification, microservices, and Front-End/Back-End technologies. The second chapter examines the impact of artificial intelligence in areas such as dentistry, ethical-technological development, and the bioethical analysis of transhumanism, positioning AI as a cross-cutting driver of innovation. Finally, the third chapter focuses on digital transformation case studies, covering topics ranging from intelligent payment systems and clean energy solutions to risk management in SMEs, emphasizing the relationship between technology and sustainability. The research compiled in this volume demonstrates how academic production in the field of systems engineering contributes to the design of relevant, sustainable, and socially responsible solutions. Through the integration of theory, practice, and technological innovation, the book offers a critical, applied, and forward-looking perspective on the challenges of the contemporary digital environment, thereby strengthening the education of professionals committed to scientific advancement and ethical, responsible development.
El Código de la Influencia Estrategias Poderosas para Tomar Decisiones, Liderar e Incidir Positivamente

In the Colombian context, the mention of soft skills (socio-emotional skills) in the Decennial Education Plan (2016–2026) was presented as a new educational paradigm, since these would contribute to “coexistence, innovation, reflective appropriation of knowledge, entrepreneurship, productivity, and research” (Ministry of National Education, 2017). Likewise, employability has been a matter of continuous concern for secondary and higher education institutions, government entities, business sectors, and student groups, especially due to the percentage of the Colombian youth population between 15 and 28 years old who neither study nor are employed, representing 22.4% in the second quarter of 2025 (DANE, 2025). However, obtaining employment can be promoted through innovation capacity, self-efficacy, and social adaptability, as these are considered strategic and survival advantages (Li et al., 2022). Therefore, this educational book aims to provide secondary school students with negotiation skills. One example is adaptability to the environment, due to its impact within business, university, or intrapersonal settings. Likewise, socio-emotional competencies (Power Skills), also known as soft skills, are addressed because they enable young people to effectively engage with their environment. In the same way, a thematic unit on motivation, resilience, and leadership is included, capable of enhancing empathy, empowerment, and initiative-taking within their community.

The book Youth Political Participation: Memories, Resistances, and Re-existences for Peace provides a rigorous and context-sensitive analysis of the ways in which Latin American youth—particularly in Colombia—participate in public life, dispute political meanings, and co-produce public policies in settings marked by inequality, violence, and institutional transformation. Structured around three sections—Conceptual Foundations, Empirical Studies, and Territorial Experiences—the volume brings together critical theoretical frameworks, quantitative and qualitative evidence, and case studies that enable an understanding of youth politicization beyond formal institutional channels. The book demonstrates that factors such as education, inequality, institutional trust, and well-being shape youth repertoires of action, while practices related to memory, art, care, and work operate as key infrastructures of participation. Its main contribution lies in advancing a shift from symbolic participation toward substantive forms of youth co-governance, which are essential for territorial peacebuilding and democratic deepening.

Social Sciences, and Sociology in particular, have widely analyzed, and with varying depth, aspects of social relations that together constitute society. A basic element of these relations between human beings, as social beings, is love, studied with various emphases given its importance and relevance in social action. Sociology has done so since its inception, and in recent years this has increased due to its importance in contemporary society, which highlights phenomena such as growing individualization, mutual ignorance, the primacy of private interests over general ones, the decay of ethical and moral principles that supported solidarity, as well as the decay of kinship ties that implied bonds of solidarity and mutual trust involving fidelity and trust that united people and communities. Given the above, love is analyzed in its different modalities (agape love, philia, passion) as a social fact that contributes to giving meaning between individuals who constitute their social world based on subjective relations that allow, thanks to love, to be accepted as what one is, without reservations or discrimination, making them feel fulfilled and understood, allowing for a more human, sincere, and true relationship, enriching life in society. The matter is not minor because, as Carl Jung said, love is the most important problem in life. The research presented starts from the analysis of love in its different meanings and modalities in the West, and then synthesizes its conception in the great historical eras of humanity (Classical, Medieval, Modern, and Contemporary), analyzing from a sociological point of view the development of the amorous feeling: falling in love, conjugality, gender, sexuality, the development of various types of families and households, and crucial matters such as reproduction or its rejection and homosexual unions, seeking to understand how the family is presented in contemporary society, characterized by a "disenchantment of the world" in the words of Max Weber. This analysis is considered necessary in a society like the Colombian one, in a process of accelerated change, in which it has not always been easy to overcome circumstances that marked its development and that remain present in today's daily life, events that caused divisions and hatreds and that continue to be present in our society, marking its development. Only by understanding the characteristics, values, and organization will we be able to understand ourselves, propose alternatives, and discover elements that, like love, can not only help us understand what we are and have been as people and as a society, but also rediscover the principles that make life in society kinder and more humane. The research intends to be a reflection that encourages and stimulates new efforts of understanding for action.

This book is the result of many years of work as a grammar teacher. Grammar Notes aims to present the key elements of Spanish morphosyntax in a clear and accessible way: from the concept of grammar itself to the definition and characterization of grammatical categories and their function as constituent elements of the sentence. The book is organized into three chapters: Morphology, Syntax, and Grammatical Categories and Word Classes. These chapters are preceded by an Introduction, which presents grammar and words in relation to grammatical categories. Each chapter begins with an outline that organizes the content and an exercise designed to test the reader's prior knowledge; it concludes with another exercise that allows the reader to review what they have learned.

This book presents the theoretical and methodological foundations for the analysis of electrical circuits operating under sinusoidal steady-state conditions, with a focus on the education of electrical and electronic engineering students. The text progressively introduces the mathematical and physical concepts that describe the behavior of sinusoidal signals, beginning with periodic functions, basic trigonometric relationships, and the use of complex numbers for representing electrical variables in alternating current systems. Subsequently, the phasor method is developed as a fundamental tool to simplify the analysis of linear circuits excited by sinusoidal sources. Through this representation, the behavior of the basic passive elements—resistance, inductance, and capacitance—is studied both in the time domain and in the frequency domain, allowing the formulation of equivalent models that facilitate circuit analysis. The book also addresses power analysis in alternating current systems, including the definition and calculation of instantaneous power, average power, reactive power, and complex power, as well as the study and correction of the power factor. Finally, the analysis of three-phase circuits is introduced, considering balanced and unbalanced systems, relationships between line and phase voltages and currents, and power evaluation in polyphase systems. Each chapter includes step-by-step solved examples, explanatory diagrams, and proposed exercises that reinforce conceptual understanding and support practical application in engineering problems. In this way, the text provides readers with a solid foundation for the analysis, modeling, and design of electrical systems operating under sinusoidal steady-state conditions.

The book explores the complexities of violence in post-conflict periods in Guatemala and Colombia, challenging the notion that the end of a war necessarily leads to peace. Through a rigorous theoretical and methodological approach, it analyzes how violence persists or transforms after armed conflicts, linking it to national and local factors such as population reconfiguration, armed competition, and state institutional responses. The central argument posits that post-conflict violence is neither homogeneous nor random, but rather shaped by the actions and omissions of the state during the reconstruction process. The work emphasizes that state reforms must be assessed in terms of their ability to engage with affected communities, taking into account both their expectations and the legacies of war. This interaction between national and local elements is key to understanding the differentiated dynamics of violence in specific territories. To this end, the book employs subnational case studies in Guatemala—Chimaltenango and Totonicapán—to illustrate how state responses and local conditions unevenly affect levels of violence. While Chimaltenango has experienced an increase in violence driven by criminal dynamics, Totonicapán shows a relative decline due to resilient community structures and limited state integration. In Colombia, the analysis focuses on the Bajo Cauca region of Antioquia.

The book Beyond the Emerald Green: Youth Building Scenarios of Peace in Western Boyacá aims to analyze the forms of agency developed by rural youth in the reconfiguration of territory and the construction of territorial peace in a region historically shaped by mining, illegal economies, and multiple forms of violence. Adopting a critical and situated approach, Chapter 1 examines the impacts of structural, symbolic, and direct violence on youth and their collective responses. Chapter 2 addresses transformations in productive vocations, particularly the relationship between agriculture and mining, as strategies for rebuilding the social fabric. Chapter 3 analyzes the transition from illicit economies to alternative youth-led productive practices. Chapter 4 highlights the experiences of young women in mining contexts and their initiatives toward gender equity. Chapter 5 explores community-based rural tourism as an alternative for territorial development. Chapter 6 examines the role of education for peace in the cultural resignification of the territory. Finally, Chapter 7 analyzes youth participation in public governance and the institutional challenges involved in consolidating territorial peace.

The common thread running through the four chapters is the connection between the social sciences and humanities and the fields of education and pedagogy. In “School Political Formation,” the dialogue is established between education/pedagogy and history during the final years of the colonial period. The section titled “Pedagogy and Contexts: Tobacco and Waldorf Pedagogy in Colombia” traces the evolution of Waldorf pedagogy in the country. The chapter titled “Evaluation as Modernization of Education” relates selection tests to processes of industrialization and internationalization. Finally, “Trajectory of the Postgraduate Training Strategy in Bogotá” compiles and systematizes information about the Postgraduate Training Strategy.

Since the mid-20th century, we have witnessed a progressive questioning of traditional humanism, especially in the field of philosophy. What explains this paradoxical situation? How is it that within the humanities themselves, the venerable idea of humanitas has become suspect? This book of essays confronts these questions and others related, ultimately, to the crisis of humanism in contemporary thought. Indeed, it examines the reasons behind the recent emergence of anthropological perspectives that, contrary to the humanist tradition, advocate for displacing human beings from the central position they have traditionally occupied in the universe of human concerns. This volume thus seeks to understand the rise of a new paradigm of thought—for which the name "posthumanism" is merely indicative—in which a different worldview is at play, one that, apart from the anthropocentric and humanist tradition, departs from the usual opposition between the human and the animal, or between the human and the natural. A paradigm under construction that has the potential to profoundly redefine the object of study and the boundaries of the humanities in the 21st century.

The text presents a systematic overview of the main philosophical aspects and questions concerning technologies, organized into three broad areas: ontological questions, or those pertaining to the nature of technologies; epistemological questions, or those pertaining to the forms of knowledge related to technologies; and ethical questions, or those pertaining to the moral analysis of the development and uses of technologies. Additionally, the final chapter addresses a concrete application of these different aspects or questions to the field of artificial intelligence. The text can serve as an introduction, manual, or guide for courses or training programs in the field of philosophy of technology, or more generally, for courses on the main theoretical questions concerning technologies.

The Santo Tomás University, Tunja Campus, through its Research and Innovation Department, presents these proceedings, the result of the "Research Seminar: Advances, Challenges, and Perspectives in Knowledge Construction," held on May 6, 2025. More than just an event, this seminar was experienced as an intellectual journey, in which participants explored diverse areas of knowledge, shared experiences, questioned realities, and proposed solutions based on research. This journey followed a route comprised of three stages that, while distinct in their dynamics, shared a common purpose: to view research as the center of interdisciplinary dialogue and intellectual production. The route began with the Territorial Challenges Workshop, a stop to analyze the environment and collectively reflect on local challenges. Following this, the route was divided into two parallel sections: Shared Knowledge, where participants enriched their understanding through presentations across various fields, and the Emerging Ideas Gallery, where a wealth of creativity and emerging research talent was showcased through posters. These records represent a map that chronicles the journey undertaken: a journey through ideas, questions, findings, and proposals, culminating in the collective log of the event. We thank all those who were part of this journey—speakers, workshop leaders, moderators, attendees, and other participants—for enriching it with their voices and expertise.

This Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Manual for Whey Production and its Potential Uses presents the technical, operational, and sanitary guidelines necessary to guarantee the quality and safety of whey obtained as a byproduct of the artisanal and industrial cheese-making process. Its purpose is to offer local operators and producers a practical guide that allows them to standardize processes, reduce losses, and promote the sustainable use of whey within the dairy supply chain. The document integrates updated concepts of sanitary regulations, quality control, and food safety management with a description of the production process from milk reception to whey production. Furthermore, it proposes alternatives for its commercial use through the production of value-added derivative products.

The purpose of this manuscript is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of sports training, physical exercise, recreation, and physical activity, addressing their theoretical and applied foundations in performance development, health, and well-being. Furthermore, it seeks to strengthen sports management and administration through innovative strategies that optimize the planning and management of organizations and events in the sports field. It also offers a detailed analysis of current legislation, providing key tools for the proper regulation and application of standards in the professional practice of sports. This work is intended for coaches, managers, researchers, and students, with the aim of providing them with essential and applicable knowledge in their respective fields.

For the construction of peace, the Havana Agreement establishes, in its first point, Towards a New Colombian Countryside: Comprehensive Rural Reform, the guidelines, methodologies, and objectives that constitute the fundamental pillars for achieving a comprehensive rural reform that fosters the overcoming of historical gaps that generate inequality and enables the proper development of the countryside as a space of wealth for the rural population. This doctoral research addresses the first point of the Comprehensive Rural Reform, with the purpose of outlining its main epistemic orientations. In addition, it analyzes the institutions involved in the rural context, which include the subject of special rural protection and the relationship between land, environment, and production. In this context, at least four pillars are identified which, since the 1970s, have been present in the different phases of reforms in Colombia, although from diverse perspectives. In this way, the study contributes to the reconstruction of conceptual references regarding rural property and the Colombian rural regime, integrating relevant theories that promote a better understanding of the legal framework and that may offer more appropriate pathways for effective responses in rural policy. The work is organized into four chapters within a qualitative paradigm supported by a multiple-method approach, applied in relation to each chapter: thus, the first uses the historical-analytical method; the second, the normative-dogmatic method; the third, the explanatory-critical method; and finally, the fourth, the propositional-empirical method. Within a framework of practical holism, the study seeks to address the reasons for examining the first point of the Peace Agreement. Subsequently, the conclusions will support the main findings obtained from this multimodal research, ultimately structuring three approaches: eco-centric perspectives of constitutional property, the economic-ecological function of constitutional property, aimed at guiding proposals for frameworks toward a broad and comprehensive understanding of property, the peasantry, and land use within land governance for comprehensive rural reform.
