Los seres humanos están en constante cambio; siempre ha sido su objetivo “cambiar para mejorar”. A pesar que continuamente ha existido tropiezo, el hombre encuentra la manera para hacer que los procedimientos sean cada vez más eficientes, todo esto gracias a la inteligencia y la capacidad de razonar de la especie. Con esta apertura de la mente humana, nacieron muchas formas de comunicación e interacción, las redes sociales vieron su luz, y sin que fueran necesarias se convirtieron en una necesidad del individuo actual, tanto así ; que ya menos de la cuarta parte de los habitantes del mundo no están conectados por medio de una red social. Facebook comenzó como cualquier otro proyecto estudiantil y paulatinamente fue ganando terreno hasta convertirse en lo que es hoy “la red social más grande de la historia”, capaz de albergar a millones de usuarios para que éstos interactúen de maneras prácticas y entretenidas (Wikipedia, s.f.).
Sin embargo, toda esta interacción hace que un gran porcentaje de personas la utilicen sin mesura alguna, ocasionando en muchas de las situaciones cambios drásticos en quien las manipula. Es preocupante ver que el rendimiento académico también se ve afectado en grandes proporciones por esta situación, los jóvenes niños y adolescentes son presa fácil de la distracción y de todo un mundo virtual atrapante que Facebook y las demás redes sociales ofrecen, la vida social virtual, los juegos en línea, la interacción sin horizontes ni barreras, hacen que la intención educativa tenga la necesidad de reordenar sus métodos para contrarrestar este flagelo.
En el ámbito educativo se evidencia este fenómeno de forma desfavorable. Los alumnos manejan a la perfección las redes sociales, Facebook; les permite montar fotos, videos y hacer diversos comentarios con relación a muchos temas de interés individual o colectivo, esta situación sin duda alguna beneficia a la creación de identidades virtuales propias; sin embargo, este tipo de herramientas no son explotadas para beneficiar el proceso educativo.
La investigación que se presenta a continuación, tiene como firme propósito el objetivo de observar la influencia que ejerce la red social Facebook, en el rendimiento académico del área de Ciencias Sociales en los estudiantes del grado 7º de la Institución Educativa Manuel Rodríguez Torices del municipio de San Diego Cesar. En el transcurso de la investigación se realizó un diagnóstico que diera cuentas de la frecuencia con que los estudiantes del grado séptimo de la institución Educativa Manuel Rodríguez Torices utilizan la red social Facebook y la relación existente entre su uso y la baja en el rendimiento académico del grupo estudiantil.
Esta investigación presenta un enfoque cuantitativo y utiliza un diseño exploratorio descriptivo, manejando como instrumentos para la recolección y análisis de datos la encuesta.
La interacción directa con los estudiantes y la observación de los mismos permitió un acercamiento positivo con un tema poco estudiado.
Para la presentación y análisis de la información se utilizó la herramienta Microsoft Excel, la cual facilitó la interpretación y análisis de los datos y resultados obtenidos.

Abstract
Human beings are constantly changing; It has always been his goal "to change to improve". Although there has been continually stumbling; man finds a way to make procedures more and more efficient; all this thanks to the intelligence and the ability to reason of the species. With this opening of the human mind, many forms of communication and interaction were born, social networks saw their light, and without them being necessary they became a necessity of the current individual, so much so; that less than a quarter of the world's inhabitants are not connected through a social network. Facebook began like any other student project and gradually gained ground to become what is today "the largest social network in history", capable of housing millions of users so that they interact in practical and entertaining ways (Wikipedia, sf ). But nevertheless; All this interaction causes a large percentage of people to use it without any measure, causing drastic changes in many of those who manipulate them.
It is worrisome to see that academic performance is also affected in large proportions by this situation, young children and adolescents are easy prey to distraction and a whole virtual world that Facebook offers, socially understood life, online games, the interaction without horizons or barriers, make the educational intention have the need to reorder their methods to counteract this scourge.
In the educational field this phenomenon is evidenced unfavorably. Students perfectly manage social networks, Facebook; allows them to mount photos, videos and make various comments in relation to many topics of individual or collective interest, this situation undoubtedly benefits the creation of their own virtual identities, however; These types of tools are not exploited to benefit the educational process.
The research presented below, has as its firm purpose the objective of observing the influence exerted by the social network Facebook, in the academic performance of the Social Sciences area in the students of the 7th grade of the Manuel Rodríguez Torices Educational Institution of the municipality of San Diego Cesar. During the investigation, a diagnosis was made to account for the frequency with which the students of the seventh grade of the Manuel Rodríguez Torices Educational Institution use the Facebook social network and the relationship between its use and the drop in the academic performance of the student group.
This research presents a quantitative approach and uses a descriptive exploratory design, using the survey as instruments for data collection and analysis. The direct interaction with the students and their observation allowed a positive approach with a little studied topic. For the presentation and analysis of the information, the Microsoft Excel tool was used, which facilitated the interpretation and analysis of the data and results obtained.
