Abstract

A word about the nature of this book. It is intended as an invitation and an initiation to the study of the biblical prophets and the biblical Psalter. It therefore assumes that these works have been read and intends to make it easier to reread them with method and profit. The reading of the Bible cannot be replaced by any biblical manual. All the more so since the mere didactic zeal fatally leads to neglect the essentials of the biblical message, which appeals to all the dimensions of language, especially in the mouths of the prophets and psalmists. The language of The language of Scripture does not aim at teaching alone; the prophetic word is not limited to interpreting events. It is therefore neither a didactic exposition nor a doctrinal summary that will transmit to the reader the richness and power that the voice of the prophets preserves in the Bible. It is necessary to read directly and to assimilate the biblical texts, and the service that this book can render is to interest in the task and to suggest the riches that the search reserves. It is a book for study and reading, but above all an aid and companion in the reading of the biblical text. For this reason, numerous passages have been quoted and references to scriptural texts abound, which support an affirmation or are stamped with unforgettable formulas. At the end of a chapter, it would be useful to go back over what has been read in order to open the way to the biblical passages referred to and to better enjoy and appropriate the texts expressly quoted. The translation we use, that of the New Spanish Bible, lends itself very well to this lends itself very well to this exercise of biblical meditation, or, in other words, to the palatation and memorization of the Word. The questions and suggestions at the end of each chapter can help to make this assimilation a reflective and critical endeavor. This book will have fulfilled its primary function if the reader feels invited to listen to the voice of the Spirit, which is still perceived in the pages of the book.
