Abstract

Historically, the female body has been subjected to strict aesthetic standards, where the ideal of beauty is often associated with weakness. These expectations, reinforced by the media and advertising, affect women's self-esteem and psychological well-being, and can lead to a problematic relationship with food and body image. In many cases, as one interviewee tells us, there are companies that pay a lot of attention to appearance, so if it's a bid, people who are overweight may be excluded. The struggle to achieve or maintain these standards can contribute to the development of eating disorders or, interestingly, to obesity, triggering cycles of dieting and binge eating.
