Abstract

This research is framed within the study of the pavilion as an architectural typology and its role in contemporary architecture, characterized by the search for flexibility, adaptability, andspatial meaning. The work begins by identifying a central problem: the existence of architecturalpavilions with limited spatial versatility and weak integration, trapped in the dilemma between the ephemeral and the permanent. The main objective is to reinterpret the pavilion type as an adaptable and versatile dwelling architecture, founded on structural clarity and the understanding of its life cycle. The adopted methodology is theoretical–analytical, developed through four stages: problem definition through analytical diagrams, selection of theoretical references, comparative study of three works by Mies van der Rohe (German Pavilion, Crown Hall, and Neue Nationalgalerie), and conceptual synthesis of architectural strategies. The study is supported by the theoretical contributions of Giulio Carlo Argan, Joaquín Arnau Amo, and Bernard Leupen, whose ideas on type, spatial sequence, and structure lead to the formulation of five architectural strategies: mutable order, spatial episodes, expressive axis, harmonic ensemble, and permeable limit. The main contribution of this research lies in the formulation of a conceptual framework of design strategies that guide the development of flexible pavilions capable of integrating structural stability with spatial variation and social sensitivity. The study concludes that the typological reinterpretation of the pavilion, understood from its structural and perceptual dimensions, constitutes a valid approach to project architectures that evolve over time without losing coherence or formal identity.
