El capítulo "Percepciones de sí misma", enmarcado en la tesis "Obesidad y Mujer: Retos del siglo XXI", aborda la creciente prevalencia de la obesidad femenina en Colombia, enfatizando la necesidad de un enfoque multifactorial que incluya la voz de las mujeres. Mediante una investigación cualitativa de diseño fenomenológico empírico, se entrevistó a 111 mujeres con sobrepeso u obesidad para explorar sus percepciones sobre su imagen corporal, el impacto del diagnóstico, la relación emocional con la comida, el ejercicio y el sueño. Los hallazgos revelan una compleja interacción entre aspectos físicos, emocionales y sociales, destacando la estigmatización, la dificultad de autoaceptación y la diversidad de experiencias personales, lo que subraya la urgencia de diseñar intervenciones más humanizadas y multidisciplinares que promuevan el bienestar integral y el respeto hacia esta población.
Abstract
The chapter “Perceptions of self”, framed in the thesis “Obesity and Women: Challenges of the 21st century”, addresses the growing prevalence of female obesity in Colombia, emphasizing the need for a multifactorial approach that includes the voice of women. Through a qualitative research of empirical phenomenological design, 111 overweight or obese women were interviewed to explore their perceptions of their body image, the impact of the diagnosis, emotional relationship with food, exercise and sleep. The findings reveal a complex interaction between physical, emotional and social aspects, highlighting stigmatization, the difficulty of self-acceptance and the diversity of personal experiences, which underlines the urgency of designing more humanized and multidisciplinary interventions that promote holistic wellbeing and respect for this population.
