Resumen
Se pretende desarrollar una investigación sobre el castigo en la administración colonial en el Nuevo Reino de Granada durante el periodo 1780-1810. Existe un vacío historiográfico sobre la materialidad del castigo colonial y sus implicaciones administrativas, discursivas y humanas. En este sentido, se proponen las metodologías arqueológica y genealógica foucaultianas para develar cómo fue la adopción, implementación y transformación de las ideas punitivas y, en especial, la apropiación de éstas por parte del aparato colonial de fines del siglo XVIII para ejercer su dominio y construir sujetos obedientes y pasivos. Esto permitirá entender cómo los discursos y prácticas de castigo (galeras, vergüenza pública, pena capital, privación de la libertad, etc.) se relacionaban tanto con la política administrativa ilustrada de fines del periodo colonial como con el orden social que pretendían preservar. Al mismo tiempo, dado que los años finales del siglo XVIII y los primeros del XIX fueron de transición histórica, la presente investigación permitirá realizar observaciones sobre el castigo colonial en general y sobre los sistemas punitivos republicanos del siglo XIX. Finalmente, será posible comprender una parte desconocida y poco trabajada de la historia social y sus manifestaciones prácticas en relación con el modelamiento de los individuos a través del castigo corporal.
Abstract
It is intended to develop an investigation into the punishment in the colonial administration in the New Kingdom of Granada during the period 1780-1810. There is a historiographical vacuum about the materiality of colonial punishment and its administrative, discursive and human implications. In this sense, the Foucauldian archaeological and genealogical methodologies are proposed to reveal how the adoption, implementation and transformation of punitive ideas and, especially, the appropriation of these by the colonial apparatus of the late eighteenth century to exercise its dominance and build obedient and passive subjects. This will make it possible to understand how speeches and punishment practices (galleys, public shame, capital punishment, deprivation of liberty, etc.) were related both to the administrative policy illustrated at the end of the colonial period and to the social order they intended to preserve. At the same time, given that the final years of the 18th century and the first years of the 19th century were of historical transition, the present investigation will allow us to make observations about the colonial punishment in general and about the republican punitive systems of the 19th century. Finally, it will be possible to understand an unknown and little-worked part of social history and its practical manifestations in relation to the modeling of individuals through corporal punishment.
