Abstract
This article aims to analyze and raise awareness among both individuals familiar with and those unfamiliar with the criminal justice process for victims of violence and abuse in Colombia, as well as the additional challenges and harms they may face throughout their interaction with the justice system. In this context, it examines the phenomenon of revictimization as a persistent issue that results in further violations of victims’ rights due to inadequate institutional responses during the stages of assistance, investigation, and judicial proceedings. To this end, the study reviews current legislation, constitutional jurisprudence, and national and international standards for victim protection, as well as the State’s obligations to ensure comprehensive, dignified, and violence-free care. The analysis demonstrates that practices such as the unnecessary repetition of testimonies, procedural delays, insufficient interinstitutional coordination, and the lack of differentiated approaches continue to hinder effective access to truth, justice, comprehensive reparations, and guarantees of non-repetition. Finally, the article highlights the need to strengthen mechanisms aimed at preventing revictimization and to consolidate an institutional response centered on the effective protection of victims’ rights.
